Job Summary
- The RN-Pediatrics provides direct and indirect nursing care for pediatric patients from newborn through adolescence. This role includes comprehensive assessment, care planning, intervention, and evaluation in a family-centered care environment. The RN works collaboratively with the healthcare team and families to support optimal health outcomes for children while considering developmental, emotional, and cultural needs.
Essential Functions
- Performs assessments and develops individualized plans of care for pediatric patients
- Administers medications, treatments, and performs clinical procedures
- Monitors patient conditions and communicates findings to the healthcare team
- Supports daily activities including nutrition, hygiene, ambulation, and elimination
- Provides age-appropriate education to patients and families
- Ensures accurate documentation of care in accordance with organizational standards
- Responds to and manages clinical emergencies effectively
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care and discharge planning
- Adheres to infection control, safety protocols, and ethical standards of care

- Demonstrated ability to provide developmentally appropriate care
- Critical thinking and sound clinical judgment under pressure
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with children, families, and colleagues
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and healthcare technologies
- Awareness of pediatric growth, development, and pain management
- Ability to function in a fast-paced, emotionally dynamic environment
- Maintains patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all times
- Participates in quality improvement, continuing education, and team meetings
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within the time frame specified in facility policy
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within the time frame specified in facility policy
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), preferred
Experience
- Previous pediatric or neonatal nursing experience preferred
- 12-lead ECG, preferred
