The Director of Sales (DOS) is a dynamic leader who is a revenue-driven, hands on sales leader responsible for personally generating business and providing strategic direction to the Sales and Events Team to ensure the achievement of both short and long-term financial goals for Elevation Convening Center and Hotel. This role actively develops new business, maintains strong client relationships while also managing, coaching and holding the sales team accountable to performance goals.
The DOS will work collaboratively with the SVP of Sales and Marketing, General Manager and Revenue Management to develop strategies to maximize REVPAR and grow market share. The DOS will also focus on working with ownership to represent the Legacy Sites and vision of EJI when presenting this special convening center and hotel.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensures topline revenue of the hotel is met with targeted prospecting and solicitations
- This position does carry an individual sales goal
- Conduct regular sales calls, site inspections, networking events, and trade shows
- Prepares weekly and monthly Sales Reports and actively participates in the annual Business Plan process
- Develop awareness and reputation of the hotel and the brand in the local community
- Maintain knowledge of the travel industry, current market trends, and economic factors
- Manages sales activity, travel schedule, and budget
- Manage and supports the Sales and Events Team including recruiting, training, evaluating performance, and providing timely feedback
- Attends industry events and travels as needed to represent IHP and the hotel.
- Participates in bi-weekly meetings with the IH Partners to provide updates on critical action items, pace, and goal achievement
- Manages department's financials and approves expenditures as needed
- Collaborates with Regional DOSM and 3rd party PR and Digital Marketing agencies to drive results and achieve agreed-upon KPIs
- Ability to access, understand, and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system
- Works with hotel Executive Committee members in the preparation of the marketing, advertising, sales plans, programs, and annual budget; manages within approved plans and budgets
- Collaborates with SVP of Sales and Marketing and Revenue Management to determine rates and group sales deployment strategies through a review of competitive data, demand analysis, and mix management
- Ability to effectively listen, communicate and perform diplomatically with internal and external customers and staff in all situations
- Directs and manages all group, transient, and banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel
- Prepares, implements, and compiles data for the strategic sales plan, monthly reports, annual goals, sales and marketing budget, forecasts, and other reports as directed/required
- Must have knowledge of various Sales and Marketing tools and be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Required Skills & Abilities:
Extensive experience in the group market with some experience in transient and catering sales, and events
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and strengths in innovation, creativity, and results-orientation
Proven Leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate the team to maximize sales production
- Ability to meet and exceed financial goals while maintaining the highest level of service standards
- Ability to think logically and make decisions.
- Ability to read and interpret business records and statistical records.
- Use mathematical skills to interpret financial information and prepare budgets.
- Ability to change activity frequently and cope with interruptions.
- Ability to accept full responsibility for managing an activity.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, Hotel Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven record of developing/improving sales and marketing infrastructure and processes.
- Demonstrated experience operating as part of a leadership team that emphasizes collaborative decision making and a high degree of coordination between functioning departments.
- 5 or more years experience in sales and marketing or related professional areas and a minimum of three years experience in a leadership role.
