EHS Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervise the safety activities of the site, ensuring that established policies and procedures are properly supported and followed.
Assists, plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including but not limited to, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Advises Facility management of safety and environmental compliance concerns and preventative actions.
Maintains safety files and records.
Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective of preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Conducts post-accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
Conducts compliance related training and maintains all related training documentation as required by safety standards.
Prepare operations procedures such as: JSA, PPE Hazard Assessments, LOTO Procedures, Confined Space procedures and SOP’s Assessments as they relate to specific job tasks.
Assists in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
Assist and maintain environmental reports including air permits, storm water permits, SPCC etc.…
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree (in related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years of direct environmental, health and safety experience (within the manufacturing industry).
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ADEM, ANSI, NFPA, DOT and Workers Compensation regulations.
Computer skills: Microsoft Office applications.
Leadership skills necessary to achieve corporate objectives.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific technical journals and legal documents.
Utilize good judgment and sound reasoning.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Safety or Environmental Certification preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proficient with Microsoft® Suite of products.
Highly self-motivated and directed with strong attention to detail.
Strong leadership, facilitation, problem solving, verbal and written communication and decision-making skills.
Extensive knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations with the ability to deal with situations involving sensitive and confidential company issues.
Working knowledge in auditing/inspecting operations and developing company policies, programs, and procedures.
Skilled in technical and regulatory language/terminology associated with environmental, health, safety, or other compliance issues with ability to effectively present information to top management, job site personnel, regulatory agencies and/or public groups; (communicate with all levels).
Strong organizational and project management skills including the ability to work against pressing deadlines.
Position calls for quick and efficient responses to sensitive issues where a high level of technical and systematic thought process is required.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Able to organize work, prioritize, engage in variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
Exercise creative, innovative, and effective problem solving.
Review/follow up to ensure optimum results.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The use of a computer and phone – must be able to see, type, write, finger, grasp, and sit.
Communicating with internal and external customers – must be able to talk, hear, see, and comprehend.
Mobility inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machines, and supplies – must be able to move about the office space, reach, bend, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
Travel – upon the Director of EHS request would include but is not limited to regular inter-site visits, as well as meetings, seminars, conferences as applicable.
This position is on call 24/7 and is expected to be accessible and respond as appropriate.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Work is routinely performed in office environment as well as regular visits to production plants and distribution warehouses which can have exposure to excessive noise levels, dust, and natural elements.
Noise levels are typically minimal in the office but may exceed normal threshold in the production plants and distribution warehouses.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
None in office environment.
Must be able to properly use, wear, and care for site specific personal protective equipment, when conducting site specific activities such as: training, audits, investigations, or program reviews.
