Teachers are responsible for all aspects of the care and education of Infants/Toddlers and preschoolers in a full-day early childhood center. Teachers ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, nurturing Christian environment.

Minimum Job Qualifications:


  • HS diploma required /Child Development Associate Degree preferred

  • Two years experience working with infant/toddlers

  • Strong desire to work in child care

  • Willing and able to cooperate and collaborate with other staff in a team-based work structure

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility on the job

  • Demonstrates initiative

  • Is conscientious and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility

  • Communicates clearly and calmly with children, parents, and other staff

  • Ensure continuity of
    care and learning in the classroom to protect the health and safety of each child.

  • Continually able to observe and respond to children's needs, emergencies and/or conflicts that might occur during the day (inside or outside environments)

  • Continually able to lift 1-40 pounds from the floor to a waist high table and carry a child (1-40 pounds) up to 50-100 feet

  • Continually able to kneel down to maintain eye contact at child's level

  • Continually able to sit on the floor to work with children

  • Continually able to react to a child that is 20 to 30 feet away within 30 seconds

  • Continually able to do fine and medium hand manipulation

  • Meet minimum standards for background checks on child abuse/neglect and criminal history

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Ensure the children's safety within the inside and outside environments

  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment

  • Abide by the minimum standards for daycare centers as prescribed by the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources

  • Plan and implement the infant-toddler-two year old program in accordance with the policies/philosophy of the center and the identified curriculum objectives

  • Gear the instructional program to meet the needs of each individual child with concern for his/her interests, individual learning style and pace of learning

  • Design an organized, stimulating and developmentally appropriate learning environment

  • Assess children's development regularly and use results to improve programming and/or seek additional services.

  • Implement smooth transitions within the children's daily schedule

  • Consider each child in relationship to his/her cultural background

  • Treat each child with dignity and respect

  • Accommodate the familys instructions for daily care routines within the context of the centers policies and procedures

  • Communicate respectfully with family members on a daily basis regarding the childs activities, special accomplishments, and/or challenges

  • Communicate with family members about specific issues as they occur during the school year

  • Treat families with respect for individual differences, family styles and cultural/ socioeconomic diversity

  • Help new families transition into the program

  • Attend all staff meetings

  • Assume responsibility for continued professional growth by attending required and optional professional development opportunities

  • Inform the director of problems in a timely and appropriate manner

  • Complete all assigned paperwork in a timely manner (daily information sheets/daily attendance, shopping lists, daily staff-child ratios, etc.)

  • Welcome visitors into the classroom and assist the director in explaining the program to visitors

  • Assist with research studies

  • Work cooperatively with assistant-toddler teacher in planning and implementing the daily program

  • Participate in the yearly teacher evaluation process
