DESE is seeking a Database Specialist / Software Developer to join our software development team. The successful candidate will lead database design and optimization efforts while also contributing to web application development. This position is ideal for a developer who enjoys working in a collaborative, small-team environment where contributions directly support the mission.
Responsibilities
Lead SQL Server and Postgres design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
Support migration and integration of data between SQL Server and Postgres systems.
Contribute to .NET MVC web applications (C#, Telerik/Kendo, front-end integrations).
Collaborate with developers in a small team environment to design, build, and maintain applications.
Develop and promote best practices for schema design, data access, and performance across applications.
Required Qualifications
7–10 years of professional software/database development experience.
Strong expertise in SQL Server schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
Solid experience with Postgres, including performance tuning and cross-platform considerations.
Working knowledge of C# / .NET MVC web development.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.
Ability to thrive in a small team environment wearing multiple hats.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with JavaScript.
Familiarity with DoD contracting environments.
Background in both application and database architecture.
Security Clearance Requirements
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
