Summary: The Cost Accountant analyzes and tracks production costs to help control expenses and improve profitability. This person will be responsible to calculate standard units ‘costs, and monitor raw material and labor usage. This person will also support monitor inventories (raw, WIP, finished goods, fixed assets…), will manage the budgeting process and several other financial reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis & Control
- Calculate and monitor manufacturing costs
- Identify variances between actual costs and standard costs
- Monitor fixed expenses
Inventory valuation and management
- Oversee the valuation of raw material, work-in-progress and finished goods inventories
- Analyze inventory turnover
- Manage capital investments and fixed assets
- Monitor cycle counts & obsolete inventory
Reporting & Financial analysis
- Stakeholder in the closing process: prepare and analyzes the P&L statement
- Prepares detailed costs reports
- Manage the budgeting process and any other forecasting reports
Compliance & Controls
- Support internal & external audits
- Maintain documentation of cost accounting procedure
Process improvements
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements
- Implement automation when possible
Ad Hoc reports & duties to meet business goals
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (minimum: pivot tables, VLOOKUP, database analysis)
- Minimum 1-3 years of related experience in manufacturing cost accounting: familiarity with basic manufacturing cost components
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with variance analysis, standard costing/inventory valuation and budget/forecast cycles
- Experience on ERP or accounting systems (QuickBooks or Fishbowl a plus)
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to produce results with minimal supervision
- Ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights
Travel Requirements:
- None
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Work Environment:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Summary Pay Range
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00
Compensation offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
