Executive Sous Chef
Job Description
Job Description
Executive Sous Chef
Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center • Montgomery, AL
Why This Role Matters
At Renaissance Montgomery, every dish is an opportunity to delight — for our guests, for our reputation, and for your culinary legacy. As Executive Sous Chef, you’ll be a vital leader in our kitchen team, executing bold flavors, mentoring talented staff, and helping guide the culinary vision of a distinguished hotel and convention center. If you're ready to balance creativity, precision, and leadership in a place that values excellence, this is your moment.
How You Will Make An Impact:
- Serve as second-in-command in the kitchen, supporting the Executive Chef in planning, executing, and elevating all culinary operations.
- Lead and mentor line cooks, sous chefs, and kitchen staff — fostering development, teamwork, and high performance.
- Monitor quality, consistency, and presentation across all food outlets (banquets, outlets, in-house dining, room service).
- Collaborate on menu innovation, seasonal specials, cost controls, and menu pricing strategy.
- Ensure kitchen operations thrive under high standards — sanitation, safety, compliance, waste control, and timely service.
What You Bring To The Kitchen:
- Culinary degree, professional certification, or equivalent experience
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in upscale hotel, resort, or fine-dining kitchens. Ideally, strong experience in a large event production environment.
- Proven leadership: experience training, managing, and supervising kitchen teams
- Polished presentation skills and experience doing client menu presentations and tastings
- Strong understanding of food cost control, purchasing, menu engineering, and kitchen financials
- Creative vision with technical mastery; able to translate ideas into consistent execution under pressure
- Commitment to high standards of hygiene, food safety (ServSafe or equivalent)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; calm in fast-paced service
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed
Why You’ll Want to Work Here
- Culinary Creativity: You’ll help shape menus that reflect regional flavor, seasonal ingredients, and guest expectations
- Growth & Ownership: Opportunities to grow, take initiative, and leave your mark on operations
- Supportive Team Culture: Join a kitchen and hotel leadership team that values respect, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Competitive Rewards: We offer a robust compensation and benefits package, staff discounts (including worldwide Marriott travel discounts), and opportunities for recognition.
Ready to Apply?
If you’re passionate about elevating food experiences and ready to help lead a premier hotel kitchen team — we’d love to meet you. Please submit your resume, a short cover letter sharing your culinary philosophy, and any portfolio or sample menus you’ve created.
