Job Summary: The Campus Mail Clerk Lead supports campus mail services by ensuring accuracy consistency and efficiency across all University mail delivery routes. Coordinates daily route operations by assessing workloads advising on staffing needs and relaying adjustments to ensure full coverage for all deliveries and collections. Trains clerks on delivery procedures. Covers routes when necessary. Performs standard mail clerk duties.

Additional Department Summary: Supports the Campus Mail Service operation by ensuring accuracy consistency and efficiency across all university mail delivery addition to performing standard mail clerk duties serves as the primary point of contact for daily route coordination route auditing and communication between route carriers and the mailroom supervisor. Balances workloads covers routes when necessary trains clerks on delivery procedures and supports the departments mission to deliver exceptional service to the University of Alabama community. Performs all aspects of mail and package handling from receipt of the items from the carriers through delivery to the final recipient.

Campus Mail Service is charged with providing high-quality cost-effective mail and package service to support the University of Alabamas business operations and student population. Campus Mail has two operational centers. The Kirkbride Mail Center services University departments as well as Greek houses and operates the University of Alabama Passport Acceptance Facility. The Campus Mail Service Center located in the UA Student Center provides student mail and package services including all parcel lockers and operates a retail shipping facility.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have a valid U.S. drivers license. Must be at least 19 years of age at the time of hire and have and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Must be able to work in a physical fast-paced position that involves continually lifting and lowering packages that typically weigh 25-35 lbs. Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects that could exceed 150 pounds with assistance and the use of hand trucks.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to read write add subtract and follow verbal and/or basic written instructions. Basic computer and keyboard skills (data entry portable data collection devices etc.). Ability to use various resources including computer systems/software applications. Ability to learn the mail centers software systems within the first few weeks of employment. Ability to learn the Universitys mail sort scheme and mailstop codes within the first few weeks of employment. Ability to learn the location of campus buildings parcel lockers offices and mailstop locations within the first few weeks of employment. Ability to interact with the public in a respectful manner while providing exceptional customer service. Ability to work without consistent supervision and follow-up. Strong sense of urgency and a commitment to excellence.

Preferred Qualifications: Intermediate knowledge of postal regulations and procedures. General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel etc.). Intermediate knowledge of Campus Mail delivery routes procedures and hardware and software used in mail processing. Advanced knowledge and skills in providing high-quality customer service.
