Director of Intelligence Project
The SPLC is seeking a Director of Intelligence Project who is committed to dismantling white supremacy. The Intelligence Project (IP) tracks activity of hate and anti-government groups and provides analysis and public education to the public, lawmakers, researchers, media, peer organizations, and others through its publishing platforms. IP collaborates with other departments to devise advocacy campaigns that expose, isolate, and starve extremist groups and individuals.
Beginning in 2025, IP will shift some work to the SPLC Action Fund (SPLC Action), a 501(c)(4) organization. With radical right activity in political spaces and elections, this change aims to give IP greater flexibility to track and discuss extremist candidates and related issues. The Director will help manage this transition, ensure staff time is tracked appropriately, and work with the General Counsel to identify work that is and is not the primary purpose.
The Director will lead the Intelligence Project, expand its capacity to respond to threats posed by extremist individuals and organizations, and provide strategic direction with urgency for SPLC and SPLC Action work.
To broaden impact, the SPLC seeks a leader who can manage and coordinate a talented team in a complex, changing environment. The role requires calm under pressure and a commitment to a strong departmental culture that values mission and collective impact.
Who You AreExperienced. Experience managing large department budgets and staff. Demonstrated experience devising integrated advocacy campaigns that have driven change. Experience confronting the radical right in an advocacy role.
Exemplary. Ability to set high standards for research and reporting, ensuring credibility and accuracy of the SPLC’s work and alignment with mission and impact goals.
Passionate. Deep commitment to the mission and the work of confronting hate groups.
Leader. Demonstrated leadership in building and maintaining an innovative, collaborative culture that inspires trust.
Mission, Vision & Values Alignment. Understanding of and commitment to SPLC's mission, vision and values.
What You'll DoOversee the IP department’s activities including editorial, publication, programs, planning, strategy, implementation, and evaluation. Manage IP programs including publishing, research, annual hate group count, training, briefings, and advocacy campaigns.
Expand capacity. Help the team operate efficiently and ensure research and intelligence work keeps pace with growth in hate groups and the extremist community while meeting high research standards.
Partner with key stakeholders to design annual planning and reporting processes.
Support cross-departmental planning and collaborate with Leadership Team and Executive Team members.
Manage a team, monitor performance and development goals, assign duties, conduct performance reviews, and provide mentoring and coaching.
Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role.
Uphold our JEDI principles by seeking diverse collaborators and ensuring contributions align with the Center’s and IP Department’s goals.
Minimum QualificationsWe are committed to equitable hiring practices; you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.
