PCCU is our inpatient palliative care unit. BLS is the only requirement, but they would like a candidate with previous inpatient palliative experience RN Skills/Experience for Palliative Positions

• Nursing background (Medsurge, Critical Care, Long term Care, End of Life Care- Palliative/ Hospice Care) experience preferred.
• Comfortable with administering frequent PRN IV medication and starting IVs
• Ability to Manage PCA/ Epidural medication Pumps.
• Comfortable with caring for patients on ventilators short term (leading to Compassionate Extubation), BiPap and High-flow Oxygen.
• Able to physically do total patient care. Patient ratio 1:4 up to 1:6
• Comfortable with death and dying (Postmortem Care- Preparing the Pt. for the morgue or funeral home)
• Able to tolerate extremely high grief level from family. (Compassionate nurse who is able to tolerate inappropriate grief from family often experience by staff). High psychosocial acuity associated with actively dying patients.
• Extensive wound care (wound Vac and burn dressings) Ostomy Care, Chest Tubes and Bladder Scanning with Foley insertion.
