Experienced Ophthalmic/Optometric Technician

Full Time | On-Site | Travel to Satellite Clinics

Why Work with Us

At Retina Specialty Institute and Southern Eye Group, our mission is simple but powerful: improving lives by saving sight. We deliver patient-centered care, combining advanced technology and clinical expertise with genuine compassion. We believe our people are our greatest strength and strive to create an environment where team members feel supported and can grow. Together, we make a difference every day.

About the Role

The Ophthalmic Technician works closely with physicians to help care for patients with eye conditions. In this role, you will prepare patients for exams, perform eye testing, assist during procedures, and document information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). You’ll play an important role in helping patients feel comfortable, informed, and cared for during their visit while helping the clinic run smoothly during busy schedules.

The ideal candidate brings prior ophthalmology or optometry experience and is comfortable performing a wide range of diagnostic testing, assisting physicians during examinations and procedures, and delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting both patients and physicians throughout the care process.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare patients for eye exams and treatments by escorting them to rooms and explaining next steps
  • Take patient medical histories and perform eye testing
  • Administer eye drops and other medications under direction by the physician
  • Perform specialized eye testing such as eye pressure measurements, visual fields, and OCT imaging
  • Accurately document patient information and test results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Assist physicians during examinations, laser procedures, and minor surgical procedures
  • Help maintain smooth clinic flow by preparing patients efficiently and according to guidelines
  • Prepare and sanitize exam rooms, instruments, and equipment before clinic and between patients
  • Educate patients on follow-up care, medications, and instructions provided by the physician
  • Answer phone calls about patient care questions, symptoms, or prescription requests

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher preferred
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in an Ophthalmology or Optometric clinic
  • Experience performing work-ups, diagnostic testing, and assisting physicians during exams
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to satellite clinic locations
  • COA, COT, or equivalent certification preferred but not required

Skills That Help You Succeed

  • Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail
  • Comfort using technology and learning electronic healthcare systems, including EMR/EHR
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, clinical procedures, diagnostic testing, and infection control
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to support smooth and efficient clinic flows
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in fast-paced or high-pressure environments
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and company policies
  • Openness to change and innovation, with the ability to learn, adapt to, and support evolution in a growing organization
