**The Role**
The Lead DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure and deployment pipelines. This role ensures adherence to Lumen's standards for CI/CD, cloud governance, and secure software delivery while driving operational excellence through automation, monitoring, and incident response. The position requires leadership in guiding DevOps practices across teams and mentoring engineers.

**The Main Responsibilities**
1. CI/CD and Automation
-Design and maintain enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines following Lumen's secure Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and compliance standards.
-Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and Ansible for consistent, repeatable deployments.
-Automate build, test, and deployment processes to improve speed and reliability.
2. Cloud and Infrastructure Management
-Manage multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) in alignment with Lumen's cloud governance policies.
-Optimize infrastructure for cost, performance, and security.
-Ensure compliance with change management and production deployment standards.
3. Reliability and Monitoring
-Establish observability practices (metrics, logging, tracing) and maintain dashboards for system health.
-Define and enforce error budgets and Service Level Indicators/Service Level Objectives (SLI/SLO) based on Site Reliability Engineering principles.
-Lead incident response and on-call rotations, ensuring adherence to Lumen's incident management and escalation policies.
4. Security and Compliance
-Integrate security controls into pipelines (DevSecOps) and enforce vulnerability scanning and remediation.
-Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal security standards.
5. Leadership and Collaboration
-Mentor junior DevOps engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
-Collaborate with software engineering, QA, and operations teams to align DevOps practices with business goals.
-Drive adoption of best practices for deployment frequency, change failure rate, and Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR) (DevOps Research and Assessment: DORA metrics).
**What We Look For in a Candidate**
o Bachelor's degree in computer science, DevOps Engineer, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.5-8 years of professional experience in DevOps development, including leading teams and managing complex projects.
Technical Expertise:
oStrong proficiency in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
oExperience with IaC (AWS CloudFormation, Ansible, etc.) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
oKnowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
-Leadership:
o Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor engineers.
-Industry Standards:
oFamiliarity with SRE principles, DORA metrics, and DevSecOps practices.
Preferred Qualifications
-Certifications: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Expert, or equivalent.
-Experience in large-scale enterprise environments
**Compensation**
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$108,896 - $145,195 in these states: CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI
