Marketing Strategist
Job Description
Job Description
Why This Role Matters
Our clients don’t just need fragmented marketing services; they need consistency, direction, and trust. At Dogwood Media Solutions, our Marketing Strategists are the engines that keep client success running.
This is a high-ownership, client-facing role for someone who thrives on clarity, execution, and communication. You aren't just managing tasks; you are managing relationships and directing the moving parts of a full-service agency to deliver real results.
One Role, Many Hats
In a typical agency, the work you do would be split across multiple departments. At Dogwood, you will wear all of these hats:
1. The Account Manager (Client-Facing Leader)
You are the primary, trusted face of Dogwood to your clients.
- Communicate with Impact: Lead client meetings, deliver presentations, and defend strategic choices with confidence and clarity.
- Build Trust: Maintain proactive, professional communication via phone, email, and video calls.
- Educate: Translate data, reports, and complex marketing concepts into clear, actionable insights for clients.
2. The Constant Innovator (Strategic Adaptor)
Marketing changes daily. What worked yesterday won't work today, and you must be excited to evolve.
- Embrace AI: At Dogwood, we view AI as an excellent partner to our strategists—making our work better, faster, and smarter. You will leverage these tools to maximize your impact.
- Adapt Quickly: Continually seek new ways to transform and elevate how we handle marketing for our clients.
3. The Project Manager & Performance Reporter
You aren't expected to execute every technical task, but you own the client's results and keep the train on the tracks.
- Coordinate with Specialists: Direct and collaborate with our graphic designers, ad specialists, and web development team to ensure deliverables are on time and within scope.
- Own the Data: Pull and deliver monthly reports on SEO performance and digital ad campaigns, serving as the expert who explains the ROI to the client.
4. The Client Advocate & PR Storyteller
Inside our office, you are the client. Out in the world, you are their voice.
- Listen Deeply: Listen to client needs and goals, translating them into actionable directions for our internal team.
- Own Public Relations: Directly handle PR efforts for your clients, crafting stories and managing public outreach to elevate their brand.
What You’ll Do (And How We Team Up)
- Execute Directly: Manage social media, content marketing, and public relations (PR) for your assigned accounts.
- Collaborate on Ads & Tech: Partner with our Web Development team (who executes technical SEO) and our Ad Specialist (who handles search and retargeting placements). You will review and present their monthly reports to your clients.
- Direct Creative Assets: Guide our graphic designers to ensure all visuals align perfectly with your client's brand strategy and goals.
What This Role Does Not Include
- Cold calling, sales, or proposal pricing
- Direct website development, coding, or technical SEO execution
- Paid ad placement and backend campaign building
- Managing internal staff as a direct report. You're the boss of the project, not the person. You assign them client tasks, but their actual manager handles their employment, reviews, and payroll.
Who We Are Looking For (No Marketing Degree Required)
We don't care about a checklist of marketing buzzwords or a specific piece of paper. A college degree is not required. In fact, our most successful team members often come from non-traditional backgrounds—we have found that English majors, former teachers, and recent grads possess exactly the kind of communication skills and organizational grit we need.
We will gladly take an outgoing, hustling innovator who wants to learn over a traditional marketing veteran any day of the week.
The Core Qualities You Must Have:
- Exceptional Communication: You love writing, speak with confidence, and can craft a clear, professional email or lead a meeting without breaking a sweat.
- Active Listening & Empathy: You can listen to a client's problem, truly understand what they need, and champion their voice internally to our team.
- The "Hustle" Mindset: You are self-motivated, eager to learn new things quickly, and ready to figure out a solution when things change.
- An Adaptable Brain: You aren't afraid of technology or industry shifts. You view tools like AI as assets that help you work smarter and faster.
- Natural Organization: You can direct the work of others respectfully, keep track of multiple deadlines, and make sure nothing drops through the cracks.
If you have experience with social media, content marketing, PR, SEO reporting, or WordPress, that's a nice bonus—but we value ownership, drive, and communication above all else. We can teach you the tools if you bring the work ethic.
Our Culture: Where Work Gets Done Right (And We Have Fun Doing It)
Let's be clear: Dogwood is not a playground.
If you are looking for an agency where people sit around playing games and wasting time all day, this isn't the place for you. Dogwood is where clients send their work because they know it will get done right, on time, and efficiently. We take immense pride in our work ethic and our high standards.
That said, we love to celebrate our hard work. We are a family-first, tight-knit team that genuinely enjoys being together.
- We have a stocked kitchen with coffee, sodas, and snacks.
- We take daily team walks and keep the garage doors open on beautiful spring and fall days.
- We host an annual get-together at the pool in the summer, friends-giving at Thanksgiving, and our annual Christmas party, sprinkled with other events throughout the year.
Perks & Benefits
- Competitive starting compensation of $35,000 annually, with a formal performance and compensation review at 90 days to evaluate merit-based increases.
- Company-paid health, dental, and vision insurance
- 3% 401(k) match
- $75,000 company-paid group life policy
- Insurance opt-out stipend if you don’t need coverage
- Support for professional development and continuing education
