Specialty Pharmacy Technician – Contract - Birmingham, AL

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm or 8:00am–4:30pm
Dress Code: Casual

Position Overview

We are seeking a Specialty Pharmacy Technician to support our fulfillment operations and ensure the accurate, timely shipment of specialty medications to patients across the country. This role plays a critical part in ensuring patients receive life-sustaining medications safely and on time.

You will work onsite with a collaborative team of up to 10 pharmacy professionals in a fast-paced fulfillment environment.

What You’ll Do

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for daily fulfillment and shipping functions, including:

• Use multiple computer systems to retrieve pharmacy orders, validate prescription accuracy, and generate mailing labels.

• Determine the appropriate packaging method for each medication shipment, considering storage conditions such as refrigeration.

• Prepare manual prescription orders by verifying details, pulling medications from inventory, and completing scanning and packaging requirements.

• Operate and maintain fulfillment equipment, including IPD machines, auto-pack machines, and related technology.

• Assist with daily workflow to ensure medications are packed, labeled, and shipped within required timeframes.

• Support inventory processes, including restocking and handling specialty medication products.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Active and current Alabama Pharmacy Technician license (required).

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician is required; experience in a fulfillment, specialty pharmacy, or shipping environment is highly preferred.

• Comfortable using multiple computer systems and working in a production-based environment.

Required Skills & Attributes

• Experience using pharmacy software systems and order processing tools.

• Strong attention to detail when verifying and preparing prescription orders.

• Ability to follow packaging and shipping procedures, including handling refrigerated or special-condition medications.

• Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain pharmacy fulfillment equipment.

• Excellent communication, teamwork, and time-management skills.

Preferred Skills

• Prior experience in specialty pharmacy or mail-order fulfillment.

• Prior experience with high-volume packaging equipment or automated dispensing machinery.
