Copper Splicer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Copper Splicer to join our telecommunications team. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and repairing copper cable networks for telecommunications services by splicing, terminating, and testing cables to ensure reliable connections. This hands-on role requires physical stamina, manual dexterity, proficiency with specialized tools and schematics, and adherence to safety protocols. Key duties include troubleshooting cable faults, performing cutovers, documenting work, and often working in challenging environments like manholes or aerial lifts.

Key Responsibilities

• Installation & Repair: Connect and install new copper cables and repair existing ones, which may involve splicing.
• Testing & Diagnostics: Perform tests like continuity and time-domain reflectometry (TDR) to ensure circuit integrity and locate faults.
• Termination: Connect and terminate cables at both ends, ensuring proper integration into the network.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues within the network to maintain uninterrupted service.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all installation, maintenance, and repair activities, including marking up maps and tracking materials.
• Cutovers: Perform cable cutovers for rerouting or defect correction, minimizing service interruptions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in cable splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
• Tool Proficiency: Skillful use of specialized hand tools and equipment.
• Safety: Strong knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols, including those for working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Reading Schematics: Ability to interpret construction prints, blueprints, and cable schematics.
• Manual Dexterity: Excellent hand-eye coordination for precise work with fine wires.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to efficiently resolve technical issues.
• Physical Fitness: Physical stamina to work outdoors, in confined spaces, climb, and lift heavy equipment.

Work Environment

• On-Site: Often involves working outdoors, in manholes, on utility poles, or within confined spaces.
• Physical Demands: Requires standing, bending, stooping, climbing, and working with arms above shoulder level.
• Independence: Many roles require the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
