Paint Chemist
Automation Personnel Services is seeking a skilled and innovative Paint Chemist for a company based in Alabaster, AL. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, testing, and improving paint formulations to meet performance, safety, and environmental standards. This role requires a strong background in chemistry, particularly in polymers, pigments, and coatings technology.

Pay Rate
$40,000-65,000 Depending on experience

Schedule and Hours
Monday through Friday, 8 00 am to 5 00 pm.

Paint Chemist Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and formulate new paint and coating products based on customer and market requirements.
• Modify existing formulations to improve performance, reduce costs, or meet regulatory standards.
• Conduct laboratory testing including viscosity, adhesion, drying time, gloss, and durability.
• Analyze raw materials and finished products using techniques such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, and GC-MS.
• Collaborate with production, quality control, and marketing teams to scale up and commercialize new products.
• Maintain accurate records of formulations, test results, and technical reports.
• Stay current with industry trends, raw material innovations, and regulatory changes (e.g., VOC compliance).
• Troubleshoot product performance issues and provide technical support to customers and internal teams.

Paint Chemist- Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in paint, coatings, or chemical formulation (entry-level roles may require less).
• Strong understanding of resin systems, pigments, additives, and solvents.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as ASTM, ISO, and EPA regulations.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Paint Chemist- Preferred Skills:

• Experience with water-based, solvent-based, or powder coatings.
• Knowledge of color matching and tinting systems.
• Experience with scale-up and manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with sustainability and green chemistry principles.
