Job Summary
We are looking for individuals to join our client’s team as Hospital Care Investigator. A member of the Revenue Cycle process, the Insurance Verification Representative's primary responsibility is to perform all insurance verification, notification, and authorization activities. Major responsibilities include interacting with insurance companies, patients, physician offices, and other hospital departments to financially secure accounts.
Job Description
Under the direct supervision of a Senior HCI, conducts investigations to determine ability of patients and their legally responsible relatives to pay for hospital charges; explores payment alternatives; enters, verifies and modifies demographic and insurance data in computerized billing system. The identification of essential responsibilities below is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position, nor does it restrict the duties which may be assigned to the position within the revenue cycle process.
- Responsible for screening uninsured or underinsured inpatient to identify insurance coverage or enrollment eligibility. Screenings most often occur on the inpatient floors.
- Assist inpatients that do not qualify for enrollment with charity care programs
- Ensure all documentation is complete and submitted for program applications
- Scan patient ID, insurance card(s), referral forms (if applicable and consent forms obtained from the patient into document imaging system.
- Follow-up on status of applications until a coverage determination is made
- Coordinate with Case Management and/or Social Work to support patients and families through the application process
- Document patient information clearly and completely in the Health Information System (HIS)
- Interact with other departments to identify patient status determinations and changes
- Refer accounts requiring escalation to Supervisor in a timely manner
- Attend all necessary training sessions to effectively perform the day-to-day functions of the position
- Perform all other duties, as assigned by the Patient Access Manager or Supervisor
Skills Required
- Prior registration, billing and collections, financial counseling, and/or customer service experience
- Computer Programs/Software Operated: EPIC, HHS Connect, EDM, Word, Excel, Insurance company websites, Internet, Email
Education/Training/Certifications
- Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university; or,
- High School diploma or its educational equivalent approved by the State Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and four (4) years of full-time experience in interviewing, investigation, or a related field, such as credit and collection follow-up or bookkeeping; or,
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to
"1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for experience on the basis that thirty (30) semester credits are equivalent to one (1) year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least a High School diploma or its educational equivalent approved by the State Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization
Certification
- Valid Certified Application Counselor (CAC) certification
Additional Requirements
- Shift time: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
Pay Rate
- $24–$28 per hour, based on experience, skills, and market factors
