Position Overview
The Director of Government Affairs is a senior member of the team responsible for leading advocacy strategies, managing key client accounts, and serving as a trusted advisor to both clients and policymakers. This role combines deep policy expertise, relationship management, and leadership, with a focus on driving measurable impact for clients and expanding the firm’s reputation and influence.
Key Responsibilities
Client Strategy & Leadership
- Serve as lead strategist for multiple client accounts, ensuring delivery of high-impact government affairs strategies.
- Provide clients with actionable insights on legislative and regulatory developments
- Oversee the overall client portfolio, ensuring services are executed on time, within scope, and at a high standard of quality.
- Lead client meetings, prepare strategic briefs, prepare timely client reports and represent clients before state and local officials.
Advocacy & Representation
- Represent clients before the Alabama Legislature, executive agencies, and local government.
- Draft position papers, testimony, and talking points.
- Testify before committees and facilitate high-level meetings between clients and policymakers.
Business Development & Firm Growth
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities to grow the government affairs practice.
- Mentor and coach junior staff, building the next generation of talent.
- Contribute to the firm’s thought leadership through media, events, and industry engagement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD, MPA, or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in years of government affairs, legislative, or regulatory experience.
- Demonstrated leadership in overseeing teams and deliverables.
- Established relationships within Alabama state and local government.
- Strong track record of managing clients and delivering results.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
Salary
