Project Management Subject Matter Expert
CGI Federal is seeking an accomplished Project Management Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide high level guidance, methodologies, and leadership across a diverse portfolio of NASA Science and Technology projects. This strategic role supports multiple project managers, offering expert consultation, mentorship, and hands-on assistance to strengthen project execution, team performance, and organizational capabilities. This position is located in Huntsville, AL. Your future duties and responsibilities
. Deliver expert consultation on NASA project management methodologies, tools, standards, and processes.
. Support project managers in developing and maintaining:
o Project plans
o Integrated master schedules
o Budget phasing plans
o Cost estimates
o Risk management plans
. Assist in standing up new project teams, including:
o Defining clear roles and responsibilities
o Developing staffing plans
o Creating organizational charts with accountability structures
. Advise on tailoring project management and systems engineering standards while maintaining required compliance.
. Facilitate decision making for make/buy strategies and procurement planning.
. Assist project managers in preparing for major reviews (milestones, monthly program/project reviews, technical interchange meetings) including messaging strategy and effective communication of key issues.
. Conduct periodic project health assessments and recommend corrective actions.
. Mentor and coach project managers to strengthen the organization's project management maturity.
. Develop, curate, and maintain lessons learned and best practices documentation.
. Provide input on risk tailoring and mitigation strategies for high priority initiatives.
. Evaluate and advise on elimination of unnecessary processes to optimize project delivery and maximize value. Required qualifications to be successful in this role
. 20+ Years of experience.
. Demonstrated expertise in NASA or comparable federal project management environments.
. Extensive experience in project planning, scheduling, risk management, and project controls.
. Ability to lead, mentor, and influence project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
. Strong communication skills and ability to clearly articulate complex technical and programmatic topics.
. Proven ability to conduct assessments and develop actionable recommendations.
. Experience supporting major program reviews and technical interchange meetings.
Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required:
. Advanced to proficient user of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc.
. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or other related certifications desirable
. Membership with the Project Management Institute (PMI) and/or the College of Performance Management (CPM) a plus. CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $89,600.00 - $198,400.00.
