Position Overview:

Venza Care at Decatur Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to provide specialized respiratory care to our residents. This critical role involves delivering high-quality respiratory therapy services, ensuring optimal lung function, and improving residents' overall quality of life. The Respiratory Therapist will collaborate closely with our healthcare team to assess, treat, educate, and support residents while contributing to reducing hospital readmissions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Resident Assessment and Care Planning:
  2. Conduct thorough respiratory assessments, including lung function, oxygen saturation levels, and symptom evaluation.
  3. Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans that promote residents’ health and comfort.
  4. Therapeutic Interventions:
  5. Administer prescribed respiratory therapies, such as nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, and spirometry.
  6. Manage and maintain respiratory equipment, including ventilators, ensuring safety and functionality.
  7. Utilize airway clearance techniques to support optimal respiratory health.
  8. Resident Education and Support:
  9. Educate residents and families on respiratory conditions, treatment options, and self-management strategies.
  10. Provide guidance on lifestyle changes, breathing exercises, and techniques to improve lung function and comfort.
  11. Documentation and Compliance:
  12. Maintain accurate, timely documentation of resident assessments, treatments, responses, and care provided in the electronic medical record system.
  13. Ensure adherence to facility protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.
  14. Team Collaboration and Training:
  15. Work closely with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate respiratory care within the resident’s overall treatment plan.
  16. Assist in training nursing staff on respiratory care techniques, equipment use, and monitoring symptoms.

Qualifications:

  1. Certification and Licensure:
  2. Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
  3. Active state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in Alabama (or eligible for licensure).
  4. Experience:
  5. Experience in respiratory care, particularly in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility, is preferred.
  6. Strong understanding of respiratory conditions, treatments, and medical equipment management.
  7. Skills and Abilities:
  8. Proficient in respiratory assessment techniques and therapeutic interventions.
  9. Excellent communication skills for educating residents, families, and staff.
  10. Compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to remain calm in emergency situations.
  11. Physical Requirements:
  12. Ability to lift, position, and assist residents, perform chest compressions, and manage emergency situations.
  13. Capacity to stand, walk, and move frequently throughout the shift.
