KOMAN Construction, LLC is looking for a Construction Laborer to perform tasks involving physical labor at a construction site in Anniston, Alabama . The position safely operates a variety of hand and power tools, equipment and instruments. They are responsible for loading and unloading heavy materials, clearing and preparing sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and cleaning up rubble, debris and other waste materials. They may assist other skilled trades workers as needed.

This is a short-term temporary position that will last no longer than 6 months. We will only consider local candidates who are withing a commutable distance of the project site.

Essential Functions:

  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Read and follow supervisors' instructions, blueprints, guidelines or specifications to complete work activities.
  • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.
  • Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.
  • Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts.
  • Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools.
  • Operate jackhammers or drills to break up concrete or pavement.
  • Smooth or finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools.
  • Provide assistance to skilled trades workers, such as electricians, carpenters, plasterers, or masons.
  • Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials, such as asphalt.
  • Understand and follow company operational processes and safety and health policies and applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Education/Certifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in at least one if the following areas is required: carpentry, general maintenance, drywall instillation (patch, tape, texture,) painting (matching, touch up & custom,) installing floors or minor electrical is required.
  • English Language – Ability to read and interpret project specifications, operations and maintenance manuals and construction drawings.
  • Communication: writing and speaking skills are needed using tact and courtesy.
  • Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Time-Management Skills: deadlines are crucial in construction. Making sure tasks are completed timely and do not impact the completion of the project is a critical part of the job.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the appropriate tools.
  • Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Installation - Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Operation and Control- Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Operation Monitoring- Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Continually required to stand, sit and walk
  • Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
  • Continually required to talk or hear
  • Continually exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather) and work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally work in high, precarious places, around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
  • Continually exposure to outside weather conditions and vibration
  • Occasional exposure to risk of radiation
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually very loud
  • The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 100 pounds/ continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Specific job duties that are affected by the environmental conditions selected above.
  • Environmental conditions drive every second of field work
