About the Community
Located in central Alabama along the Alabama River, this historic city of approximately 18,000 residents offers a unique blend of rich heritage, Southern charm, and outdoor recreation. The area features Alabama’s largest historic district, with over 1,200 preserved structures, including stunning antebellum and Victorian homes. Former cotton warehouses and Civil War–era buildings have been thoughtfully restored into specialty shops, cafés, offices, and cultural spaces.
The community has a vibrant arts scene, including a local art guild gallery and a beautifully restored historic theater that hosts performances and events throughout the year. Educational opportunities are strong, with public and private schools, local colleges, and several major universities within a short drive.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the Alabama River provides abundant opportunities for fishing, boating, and water sports. The region is known for excellent hunting, with numerous commercial hunting operations offering deer, quail, and turkey hunting. The city also supports an active lifestyle with tennis courts, ball fields, and organized recreational leagues.
