Job Title: Solderer – Class 3 Electronics Assembly
Job Description
This role focuses on precision electronic assembly for mission-critical military and defense applications. You will solder small components and active printed circuit boards that are integrated into advanced systems such as night vision devices and safety equipment. The work must consistently meet strict Class 3 standards, adhere to customer specifications, and pass rigorous quality inspections before being installed into larger government systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform Class 3 soldering on small electronic components and active printed circuit boards for mission-critical defense products.
- Solder fine-pitch and thru-hole components while working through a microscope for the entire shift.
- Follow detailed blueprints, customer schematics, and written work instructions to complete assemblies to exact specifications.
- Apply IPC-610 and J-STD standards to all soldering work to ensure consistent high-quality results.
- Complete a soldering test by accurately soldering resistors on a circuit board and achieving a minimum score of 80 out of 100.
- Maintain a high level of precision and accuracy, ensuring all work passes visual inspection and formal quality checks.
- Work steadily and efficiently with a focus on quality over quantity, recognizing the mission-critical nature of the products.
- Collaborate closely with team members in a small, fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, professional attitude.
- Participate in initial training and shadowing, incorporate feedback from leadership, and continuously improve technique, speed, and adherence to instructions.
- Follow all facility procedures and guidelines related to handling electronic components and maintaining a clean, organized workstation.
- Proven experience in Class 3 soldering, with work that is visually clean and able to pass strict quality inspection.
- Hands-on experience soldering fine-pitch and thru-hole components on printed circuit boards.
- Ability to perform all soldering tasks while looking through a microscope for extended periods.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, customer schematics, and detailed work instructions.
- Practical knowledge of IPC-610 standards, with current or past IPC-610 certification preferred.
- Familiarity with J-STD / J-Standard requirements for soldering and electronic assembly.
- Experience with surface mount and thru-hole soldering techniques on PCBs.
- Capability to achieve at least 80 out of 100 on a practical soldering test involving resistor placement and soldering.
- Solid understanding of electronic assembly processes, including soldering assembly and electrical connections.
- US citizenship.
- Experience working in electronic manufacturing environments, particularly for defense or other highly regulated industries.
- Demonstrated track record of being extremely quality-oriented and detail-focused in prior soldering roles.
- Ability to maintain concentration and precision while seated and working under a microscope for most of the day.
- Comfort working in a small, close-knit team where collaboration and mutual support are important.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to perform top-notch soldering work.
- Ability to accept coaching during initial training and quickly incorporate feedback to improve performance.
- Reliability in attendance and consistency in maintaining high standards over time.
You will join a close-knit team in a clean, fast-paced facility where quality craftsmanship is highly valued and directly contributes to critical real-world outcomes. The organization promotes strong morale through team-based charity work and shared activities, fostering a supportive and collaborative culture. The 9/80 work schedule offers enhanced work-life balance with every other Friday off, giving you regular extended weekends while maintaining full-time hours.
Work Environment
The role is based in a clean, organized electronics manufacturing facility that operates at a fast pace but maintains a supportive, team-oriented atmosphere. The facility is relatively small, which encourages close working relationships and visible teamwork among employees. You will be seated for most of the day, working in close proximity to other solderers and performing all soldering tasks through a microscope similar to those used in educational labs. Work is performed on printed circuit boards using industry-standard technologies and practices such as IPC-610 and J-STD. The shift runs from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a 9/80 schedule, meaning you have every other Friday off. Collaboration, clear communication, and the ability to work well in teams are essential in this environment.
