Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient insurance coverage when obtaining precertification.
  • Obtain insurance precertification through insurance portal or phone call for all tests that require it such as MRIs, CTs, and DEXA scans.
  • Obtain insurance precertification for injections ordered by providers if the insurance policy requires it.
  • Obtain insurance approval for Tricare Prime patients requiring physical therapy at a facility other than SOS.
  • Work with the check-in and check-out staff to cancel appointments when necessary if tests or injections are not approved.
  • Schedule follow up appointments or consults with other physicians in our practice.
  • Send prescriptions electronically to patients’ preferred pharmacy.
  • Instruct patients where to have any lab work or testing done when ordered by a provider.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and direct patient questions to the correct department when needed.
  • Obtain and enter referrals for Medicaid, Tricare, certain Blue Cross Blue Shield policies, and any other insurance policies that require them when needed.
  • Collect, count, and turn in any monies owed and/or appropriate receipts daily.
  • Relay messages to physicians when necessary to complete patient requests.
  • Record comments in patient charts to ensure good communication and understanding for all departments on issues as they arise.
  • Help other departments and your supervisor with tasks assigned or requested to ensure a cohesive teamwork environment.
  • Comply with all HIPPA rules when dealing with patients and patient information.

Preferred

Familiarity with PM and EHR computer systems

Knowledge of HIPAA rules

Medical receptionist experience

Customer service experience
