The Director of Compliance and Finance plays a critical leadership role at Greater Peace Child Development Center (GPCDC). This position ensures full compliance with OSR, DHR, CACFP, Food Bank, and other regulatory requirements while maintaining curriculum fidelity, supporting staff effectiveness, and overseeing all fiscal management functions. The Director provides leadership in accountability, integrity, staff performance, and operational excellence.
This role requires strong organizational skills, patience, financial oversight, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the Executive Director, the Director of Operations, staff, families, and community partners. The Director of Compliance and Finance is expected to model professionalism, consistency, and fairness in all interactions and to ensure that all responsibilities are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Vision
- Develop, articulate, and implement the Centers mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional workplace culture.
- Serve as a visible leader and role model for staff, students, and families.
- Communicate consistently and transparently with the Executive Director, Board, staff, and stakeholders.
- Advocate for the Child Development Center and Greater Peace Community Development Corporation.
Compliance Oversight
- Ensure 100% compliance with OSR, DHR, CACFP, Food Bank, and other partnering agencies.
- Audit student and staff files, classrooms, documentation, and kitchen areas to maintain compliance.
- Oversee DHR re-licensing, required drills, and health/safety inspections.
- Maintain accurate documentation, secure records, and confidentiality.
- Submit timely reports to OSR, CACFP, and the Executive Director.
- Coordinate and document all OSR field trips and parent engagement activities.
Fiscal Management
- Develop, monitor, and manage center budgets (OSR, CACFP, Food Bank, and GPCDC).
- Update financial spreadsheets weekly and submit expenditure sheets every Friday.
- Approve payroll for OSR staff and Cook; review time sheets to avoid overtime.
- Oversee tuition collection, enforce late fee/termination policies, and maintain financial accountability.
- Order supplies and food while ensuring purchases remain within budget.
- Provide monthly financial reports to the Executive Director and CFO.
- Support fundraising efforts to ensure a minimum of $5,000 raised annually.
Staff Management & Development
- Supervise OSR staff and Cook; address performance concerns immediately.
- Conduct performance evaluations twice yearly (December and May).
- Develop Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and ensure they are signed and documented.
- Mentor staff, provide ongoing training, and encourage professional growth.
- Manage staff schedules, ensure compliance with ratios, and maintain a substitute list.
Program Management & Curriculum
- Support teachers in implementing the curriculum and assessing student progress.
- Monitor lesson plans, staff documentation, and student progress.
- Ensure program quality and fidelity to OSR curriculum standards.
- Oversee enrollment, marketing, and parent communications to maintain target enrollment.
Family and Community Engagement
- Foster strong, positive, and communicative relationships with families.
- Address parent concerns promptly and professionally.
- Organize parent/teacher conferences, family events, and staff activities.
- Represent GPCDC at community events and maintain partnerships with local organizations.
Confidentiality and Professional Conduct
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding staff, student, family, and organizational records.
- Maintain professional boundaries and avoid gossip or favoritism.
- Ensure compliance with mandatory reporting laws regarding suspected abuse or neglect.
- Model trust, respect, teamwork, and professionalism at all times.
Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Duties
- Daily: Conduct facility walk-throughs, supervise staff, review payroll/timesheets, monitor CACFP documentation, and engage with staff, parents, and students.
- Weekly: Collect tuition, submit deposits, update financial spreadsheets, order food/supplies, post on social media/ClassDojo, and meet with the Executive Director.
- Monthly: Submit CACFP documentation, update Food Bank binder, review student/staff files, advertise/market the center, conduct drills, and host staff meetings.
- Quarterly: Schedule parent and staff engagement activities, host professional development, and ensure CACFP monitoring visits.
- Annually: Support CACFP recertification, assist in creating the school calendar, rotate and archive files, ensure required inspections/licenses are obtained, and attend board meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or 120 hours of completed DHR-approved training and DHR requirements.
- 3-5 years of experience in Business Administration, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 35 years of leadership experience in child development, compliance, or finance.
- Deep knowledge of OSR, DHR, CACFP, and Food Bank regulations.
- Strong financial management, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to mentor, coach, and lead staff.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work flexible/untraditional hours as needed.

- Maintain commitment to GPCDCs mission of providing safe, high-quality early childhood education while ensuring the center is self-sustaining.
Employment Classification
This position is at-will, meaning that either the employer or the employee may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without notice or cause, as permitted under Alabama law.
Benefits: 2 Weeks of Paid Vacation annually, 10-12 Paid Federal Holidays, 5 sick days per year (roll over allowed in accordance with GPCDC policies and procedures), and 2 allowable unpaid leave days annually. Access to vacation and sick leave based on probationary period.
