Senior Software Engineer (Java/Python)

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Java/Python) in Birmingham, AL. Summary: We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader in API development and governance. This role combines deep hands-on coding experience with the ability to guide API owners, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with business and technology leaders to ensure API compliance and scalability. Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a senior resource for API governance, guiding teams on API specifications and best practices
• Lead framework development for API contract validation and governance compliance
• Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers
• Perform advanced hands-on coding in Java and/or Python, with ability to review and optimize solutions across teams
• Oversee deployments in Kubernetes/OpenShift environments and ensure operational excellence with monitoring tools
• Engage with architects, technology leaders, and business stakeholders to align API solutions with enterprise strategy
• Provide production troubleshooting and performance tuning across distributed environments
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Minimum of 7+ years of software engineering experience, including senior-level API governance
• Experience with MuleSoft Runtime Fabric (RTF), Flex API gateway clusters, and API Gateway migration
• Hands-on expertise in Java and/or Python; Proficiency in other languages (C#) a plus
• Deep understanding of ServiceNow CMDB, API management, RAML, Swagger, and Open API specifications
• Dynatrace (or similar observability tools) experience required
• Strong collaboration skills to work across technology and business teams

• Experience mentoring and guiding development teams
• Background in discussing architecture and API strategies with technical and business leaders
• Proven ability to lead framework development and governance initiatives
