Hydrostatic Pipe Tester
- Reads and interprets drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine layout requirements
- Cuts openings for pipe in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines
- Tests system for leaks using testing equipment
- Cleans and maintains pipe units and fittings and flush system
- Installs clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system using hand and power tools
- Installs pipe systems on board vessels in a safe and productive manner.
- Safely rigs equipment following all OSHA requirements.
- Inspects work, identifies potential problems, initiates corrective actions.
- Increases awareness of Quality procedures within department
- Ensures correct work procedures are adhered to.
- Performs as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the supervisor.
- Continuously improves communications and flexibility within the team.
- Helps build the team environment.
- Builds pride of workmanship and quality through on job training.
- Contributes towards innovation / productivity improvements.
- Assists in the control of waste elimination, e.g. materials, consumables etc.
- Assists supervisor to maintain control of department equipment and its maintenance.
- Works towards the team goal of delivering the vessel on time.
- Ensures work area is left clean, all equipment and tools are stowed away safely and protected against damage.
- Performs testing under limited supervision.
- Must be willing to work with and train lower-skilled workers.
- May be assigned tasks including outside the craft as required.
- Complies with Austal's employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.
- One (1) year minimum work experience at Austal or two (2) years of experience in a similar role at a comparative employer required.
- Pass the Hydrostatic Pipe Tester test or equivalent pipe test required.
- Prior experience in safe and effective use of craft related tools and equipment required.
- Ability to perform simple math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and measure using the metric system required.
- Knowledge of shipyard terminology such as general ship structure and vessel layout required.
- Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:
- 18 years of age or older at time of application
- Able to provide proof of US Person Status
- No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
- No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
- Willing to submit to a drug screen
- Willing to submit to a background check
