Asphalt & Drainage Installation Carpenter
This entry level Carpenter II position is responsible for efficiently and safely operating heavy machinery and performing skilled tasks related to the installation of asphalt paving and drainage systems, including the installation of drainpipes. This role involves reading blueprints, preparing work sites, ensuring quality standards, and adhering to safety regulations to support the city's infrastructure development and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and asphalt pavers in the installation of asphalt surfaces and drainage systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction plans to execute projects accurately.
- Excavate and prepare work sites for drainage pipe installation, ensuring proper alignment and grading.
- Install drainpipes, catch basins, and other drainage components according to specifications.
- Spread, level, and compact asphalt for road repairs, new paving, or overlay projects.
- Ensure proper placement and connection of drainage components to prevent future issues.
- Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment and tools.
- Monitor work zones for safety hazards and enforce safety procedures among team members.
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and city officials to ensure project specifications are met.
- Document work progress and report any issues or delays to supervisors.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery and performing asphalt and drainage installation work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and techniques used in asphalt paving and drainage systems.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and regulations.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and relevant certifications preferred.
- Outdoor construction environment with exposure to weather elements.
- Potential exposure to loud noises, dust, and heavy machinery.
- Requires physical stamina and the ability to work in varying temperatures.
