Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist with various duties, provide troubleshooting support, and offer recommendations to improve workflow. This position requires expertise in performing blood draws, specimen labeling, and patient information updates.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
• Clearly explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow physicians' orders precisely.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify test requisitions against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

• 1+ years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting.
• Must have inpatient hospital experience, performing rounds
• Proficiency in blood draw and specimen processing across all age groups.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work off shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Hospital experience is mandatory.
• Experience with heel sticks is preferred but not required.

Work Environment

The position is set in a busy hospital environment requiring significant walking and standing, including moving a 20lb push cart with phlebotomy supplies. The role involves a team setting with duties such as inpatient phlebotomy, morning rounds, and front desk processing. Working hours are from 0300 to 1130, Monday to Friday, with an average of 30-50 patients per day.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $22.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Birmingham,AL.
