Circuit Card Assembly Rework Technologist (IPC/J-STD-001)

Chipton-Ross
Huntsville, AL

Job Description

Job Description

Your day at a glance

You start your shift by reviewing released planning, detailed work instructions, and the latest 2D/3D models, schematics, and wiring diagrams for a circuit card assembly (CCA) awaiting rapid rework. With shop tools and precision measuring instruments at the ready, you dive into component-level troubleshooting, isolate the fault, and perform exacting solder and desolder operations that meet IPC and J-STD requirements. You log results per procedure, update rework charts and SPC data, and move to the next board, where you’ll incorporate an approved change, verify fastener alignment and connections, and complete a clean fit check before closing documentation. Throughout the day, you keep your bench organized, your tools calibrated, and your attention fixed on quality, safety, and schedule—working under general supervision while contributing recommendations that improve both product and process.

What you’ll do
  • Execute rapid rework and repair on electronic/electrical CCAs and subassemblies as an individual contributor.
  • Perform simple to complex modifications and rework to circuit card parts and assemblies to IPC and J standard requirements.
  • Operate shop tools and equipment, including precision measuring instruments, safely and effectively.
  • Document results in accordance with applicable procedures; collect and input data for statistical process control (SPC) analysis.
  • Use detailed work instructions, released planning, and supporting technical documentation (technical drawings, 2D/3D models, schematics, circuit/wiring diagrams, process and equipment specs, photographs, illustrations, and sketches) to guide rapid rework on CCAs.
  • Complete related tasks such as fabrication, installation, adjustment, fit checks, fastener alignment, connections, and subassembly work.
  • Record CCA non-conformances down to the component level and incorporate approved changes per formal direction to electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
  • Assist in defining, implementing, completing, and monitoring work scope, and recommend improvements to rework, tooling, and integration processes.
  • Set up and maintain CCA rework charts, logs, records, and reports.
  • Work in a clean, organized environment while following strict safety guidelines; duties may include handling hazardous waste (if qualified).
  • Maintain all licenses, permits, and certifications required to perform CCA rework.
What you bring
  • Ability to work any shift.
  • 5–7 years of hands-on rework experience using standard hand and pneumatic (air) tools.
  • 3 years working to Department of Defense (DoD) and NASA assembly soldering specifications.
  • 5 years applying J-STD-001 requirements.
  • 5 years of component-level electronics soldering and repair.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics; able to follow blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure correct placement and connections.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to: navigate the desktop, taskbar, windows, and settings; use a mouse, keyboard, and essential shortcuts; create, rename, delete, and organize files and folders; connect to printers; and adjust system preferences such as volume and display.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and clear communication for reporting issues and following instructions.
  • Experience assembling components onto circuit boards (e.g., transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, relays, resistors, and other parts).
  • Expertise in soldering and desoldering with hand tools or automated equipment; perform quality inspections including automated optical inspection (AOI).
  • Ability to diagnose and repair faulty components or circuits; maintain tools and equipment in good working order; document assembly processes and issues encountered.
How you’ll succeed

By pairing meticulous craftsmanship with disciplined documentation and safety-first habits, you’ll return complex CCAs to service quickly and correctly—every time.
