General Description
Occupational health nurse is to provide preventative measures that ensure the health and safety of workers at IVXP. Working closely with employees and management, occupational health nurses strive to ensure that all health and safety standards are met to safeguard the health and wellbeing of employees. A collaborative relationship with employers, the occupational health nurse acts as an advocate for the rights of employees by ensuring access to preventative health and safety measures.
It is the occupational health nurse who works toward maximizing employee productivity and overall health and safety so that disability claims, on-the-job injury claims, and absenteeism are all greatly reduced. As such, occupational health nurses create a safer and healthier work environment to the benefit of all.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide medical services to employees:
- Evaluation, treatment and case management of occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses
- Scheduling, conduction, and follow-up of federally regulated and IVXP mandated physical exams
- Performance of OSHA required interim hearing tests, pulmonary function exams, respirator fit testing and medical management of IVXP Hearing Conservation Program and IVXP Respirator Program
- Conduction of pre-employment, random and follow-up drug and alcohol tests
- Responsible for medical approval of Family Medical Leave Act absences and coordination of information with HR representative
- Interact with contract physician and employee’s physician when appropriate to provide timely and appropriate return to work for both non-occupational and occupational injuries and illnesses. i.e. case management
- Oversee immunization program for expatriate employees, employees on temporary foreign assignments, and employees participating in voluntary immunization programs
- Responsible for Employee Health and Wellness program activities
- Counseling of employees with referral to the Employee Assistant Program (EAP) or other resources when appropriate
- Responsible for Bloodborne Pathogen Program management including training and immunization of first responders and exposure follow-up procedures.
- Provide oversite/audit of contractor medical programs by consulting with the contractor Occupational Health Nurse to ensure that the provision of first aid treatment, case management of contractor injuries, and onsite medical surveillance is being completed as contracted
- Provide consultation to the Leadership Team and supervisors on health and medical issues
- Conduct ergonomic evaluations and consultations
- Coordinates and participates in onsite CPR training as an American Heart Association BLS Instructor
Performs administrative duties:
- Performance of office management functions including computer entry, maintenance of calibration and logbooks, and medical record maintenance
- Maintain and update Occupational Health Nurse Protocol Manual and Medical Department Procedure Manual
- Negotiates and oversees contracts with outside providers of supplies and services
- Ordering and maintenance of proper medical supplies to adequately perform job tasks
- Compliance with federal regulations such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, FMLA, and OSHA
- Evaluate and update implementation of plant specific Pandemic Response Plan by continuing to monitor WHO and IVXP communication regarding change in pandemic status in the world
- Consult with contract physician and IVXP Industrial Hygienist annually to evaluate medical examination components and job classifications to ensure compliance and to improve wellness
- Manage the site’s Worker Compensation program
Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
- Maintains strong code of confidentiality
- Maintains a clean and well-organized work area
- Attends meetings and training as required and maintains professional certifications
- Comply with all HSSE programs, policies, and procedures
- Performs special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned
- Conducts new employee orientation regarding onsite Occupational Health Program
- Manages the Wellness Committee including the Fitness Reimbursement Plan

Experience
Education/Experience/Certifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Occupational Health Nurse certification
- Five years’ experience in manufacturing
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Power Point
- Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
- Knowledgeable of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills
