The Maintenance Technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role focuses on minimizing downtime, supporting the installation of new process equipment, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area while following established work methods and safety standards.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance on all production equipment while following standard work methods and safe work practices to keep operations efficient and safe.
- Carry out routine and corrective repairs on equipment as needed to restore and maintain proper functionality.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new process and production equipment, including any required infrastructure.
- Train new employees on maintenance processes, procedures, and best practices to build team capability.
- Act as an exemplary leader in safe work practices and procedures, consistently modeling appropriate safety behavior.
- Apply 5S principles to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
- Follow and execute verbal and written instructions accurately to complete maintenance tasks as directed.
- Contribute to the development and training of other team members in maintenance standards and procedures.
- Perform the duties of a lead or senior maintenance technician when required in the absence of designated personnel.
- Control equipment downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and schedules.
- Ensure the proper operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.
- Use diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance in accordance with the PM schedule and provide feedback when the schedule requires adjustments.
- Identify sources of mechanical problems by observing and listening to equipment during operation and taking appropriate corrective action.
- Prepare clear maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends related to equipment performance and repairs.
- Read and interpret work instructions and execute tasks accurately based on those instructions.
- Perform all other maintenance-related duties as assigned to support production and facility needs.
- Proven experience as a maintenance technician in a production or industrial environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues effectively.
- Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing mechanical systems and components.
- Knowledge of pneumatic tools and systems, including operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on engines, motors, conveyor systems, and production machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer instructions.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices and adherence to established safety procedures.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Capability to prepare clear and concise maintenance reports and documentation.
- Experience training new employees on maintenance procedures and standards.
- Demonstrated leadership in promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Familiarity with 5S or similar workplace organization and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting the installation and start-up of new production equipment and related infrastructure.
- Ability to analyze maintenance trends and provide feedback to improve preventive maintenance schedules.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production and other team members.

Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a production facility environment, working directly with machinery, mechanical equipment, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and various production machines. You will regularly use technical documentation such as diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer instructions to perform maintenance and troubleshooting. The position involves hands-on work on the shop floor, adherence to established safety procedures, and consistent application of 5S principles to keep the work area clean, organized, and safe. Work hours may align with production schedules and can include time-sensitive tasks to minimize downtime and support continuous operations, requiring flexibility and responsiveness in a fast-paced setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
