CDL Driver
- Perform daily pre-trip inspection on vehicle and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating conditions prior to departure.
- Check shipping papers to determine nature of load and any special hazards, and, when feasible, to check load itself, and methods of securing it.
- Operate vehicles in compliance with D.O.T., State Vehicle Code and Code of Regulations (Title 13), company rules and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Pick-up and deliver freight as required
- Load, unload and move freight manually or with mechanical lifting equipment as required.
- Hook and unhook trailers as required.
- Collect freight charges (C.O.D.s) and deliver to branch as instructed.
- Match, count and verify freight with bills of landing and manifest. Note any exceptions in writing.
- Secure freight with tarps, chains, webbing, or straps.
- Perform other related work as required.
- Always present a professional image and attitude to customers.
- Possess and utilize area map book as applicable.
- Perform general clean up (e.g. truck and trailer interior).
- Report all accidents or injuries regarding driver or equipment to Branch Manager immediately.
- Maintain Driver’s Record of Duty Status (driver’s log) in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
- Possesses general knowledge of operation and safety of pallet jacks, forklift, lift gates, etc.
- Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Safe and legal operation of a commercial vehicle
- Safe and timely transport of freight from one location to another.
- Proper loading and unloading of freight to assure safety and minimal risk of damage to product and danger to people.
- Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to truck operations and freight movement.
- Professional representation of the company and the trucking industry through responsible driving.
- Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 10 hours.
- Must be able to shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
- Must be able to perform occasional squatting to handle and position freight.
- Must be able to perform occasional crouching to handle and position freight.
- Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle’s cab frequently during the day. Cab floor level is generally from 36 to 66 inches above the ground level, with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds; also requires occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing.
- Must be able to perform frequent pushing of freight weighing up to 75 pounds on a dolly or cart as well as well as occasional pushing of freight weighing up to 250 pounds maximum with or without a mechanical aid.
- Must be able to frequently perform lifting and carrying freight weighing 1 pound to 50 pounds of varying size and shape a distance of at least 1 foot but usually no more than 15 feet.
- Must be able to occasionally perform lifting and carrying freight 51-122 pounds of varying size and shape a distance of at least 1 foot but usually no more than 15 feet.
- Must be able to frequently reach for freight at waist level and occasionally reach for freight above shoulder height or below waist level.
- Must be able to occasionally reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls to operate the truck.
- Must be able to load and unload full trailers of freight weighing as much as 50,000 pounds. This could involve moving containers to and from floor level to carts, stacks, conveyors, or platforms, over four feet high, balancing drums or cylinders on their rims and rolling them into position or stowing cartons or other merchandise overhear. This type of activity could proceed or follow as much as 10 hours of driving.
- Must be able to install and remove tire chains when required due to inclement weather.
- Must be able to spend up to 50% of the day standing and walking on surfaces such as concrete, wood and metal and sometimes on slippery and wet surfaces.
- Must be able to hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations, manually lower and raise landing gear, operate the fifth wheel release level, lock and release pintle-hooks, attach and release safety chains, open and close cargo doors, climb into and out of vehicles, fuel vehicles and check engine oil and coolant levels.
