Production Foreman

This position is located On-site in our Pensacola, FL location.

Position Description

Birdon America, Inc. is seeking a Production Foreman to join our growing team at Birdon’s new Port of Pensacola location. This is a working Foreman role responsible for leading daily production activities while remaining actively engaged in hands-on work. The successful candidate must be a Class 1 Welder or Class 1 Fitter and must have practical working knowledge of both disciplines.

Selected candidates will train and work in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, for approximately 30 days before transferring to the Pensacola location. Travel reimbursement will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

· Serves as a working Foreman by leading assigned production personnel while performing hands-on welding and/or fitting work as required.

· Coordinates day-to-day work assignments for welders, fitters, and other craft personnel to support production schedules, quality standards, and safety expectations.

· Provides technical guidance to team members on welding, fitting, layout, fit-up, and related production activities.

· Supports preliminary evaluations of team members and provides input on performance, attendance, workmanship, and adherence to safety requirements.

· Supports the Project Manager in setting performance expectations, addressing work issues, and coordinating corrective or disciplinary action when needed.

· Coordinates with other craft disciplines to resolve production issues, maintain workflow, and meet project and team objectives.

· Serves as backup for the Project Manager when assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications

-Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

· Must be qualified as a Class 1 Welder or Class 1 Fitter, with working knowledge of both welding and fitting requirements in a ship/boat building environment.

· 5 or more years of experience in the ship/boat building industry, including hands-on welding and/or fitting experience with aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel.

· Experience with applicable welding processes such as FCAW, SMAW, SAW, GTAW, and Air Carbon Arc Gouging, as well as fit-up, layout, and fabrication practices.

· Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, weld schedules, fit-up requirements, and production drawings.

· Must be able to perform and oversee tack welding, fit-up, heat control, and clean bead application.

· Must be able to pass applicable pre-employment weld and/or fitter qualification testing.

· Excellent math skills with ability to read a tape measure accurately.

· Ability to fix a defected weld and train employee on proper weld requirements.

· Must be able to weld in any position (uphill, downhill, horizontal, pipe or flat) with the processes above.

· Ability to operate safety equipment and use safe work habits, coach and instill these safety requirements in workers.

· Demonstrates strong work ethic and holds team members to same standards.

· Must be able to operate power tools (grinders, saws, and drills) and assigned welding process equipment.

· Excellent communication skills.

· Demonstrates strong leadership skills, works within established budget and maintains quality standards.

· Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

· Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly as well as climb stairs and ladders to complete tasks.
