Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Mixed Acuity ICU/PCU position requiring a minimum of 1 year of ICU experience and proficiency with titratable drips and hemodynamic monitoring.
Details
- Work setting is an 18-bed mixed acuity unit serving both intermediate care and non-vented ICU-level patients
- Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural patients (post-TNK, neuro IR procedures, hemorrhages/aneurysms, craniotomies, EVDs, spinal cord injuries) as well as patients with respiratory failure, CHF, sepsis, DKA, and acute neurological diagnoses
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:3 based on acuity; CNA ratio is 1:12
- Shift is 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend; back-to-back weekends are rare
- No on-call requirements
- Scheduling follows a 6-week cycle
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
- EMR is Cerner; IV pump is Plum 360; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Spacelabs and Resparray
- Floating may occur to like units (MS-to-MS, MS-to-ER holds, ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task limited to 3, or ICU-to-ER holds)
- RNs are required to read and measure telemetry strips independently
Requirements
- Active AL or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; first-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of ICU experience
- Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry strip reading required
- Experience with CVP monitoring, hemodynamic line monitoring, post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes required
- Experience titrating vasoactive and cardioactive drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine required
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- One supervisor-level or above reference from within the past 12 months required for consideration
- SSN and date of birth (day and month) required for consideration
- Copies of certifications required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Unit is supported by CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
- A dedicated educator and nurse mentor are available as unit resources
- New travelers and those returning after 1+ year away will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for rehires is determined based on last date of service
- An interview is required as part of the hiring process
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a travel assignment at this facility
- Up to 7 days of time off may be approved, excluding facility blackout dates
- Scrub color is open — any color is acceptable
