Primary Function

Team Leader. Salary Range : $45,000 to $52,000/year

Position Summary

At the YMCA of South Alabama, we create a space where families, children, and individuals can thrive. This role focuses on overseeing the creation, development, and growth of membership, aquatics, fitness, and sports programming at the YMCA, and will grow other programs as the branch requires. You’ll lead in ensuring programs are safe, fun, and effective, delivering a high-quality experience for the community. This role blends creativity, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive impact, with opportunities to grow leadership skills and career.

Essential Functions
  • Lead the Fun: Oversee and enhance programs for the assigned branch. Plan, promote, and develop activities for youth and adults aligned with healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
  • Manage Facilities & Budgets: Oversee aquatics center, fitness floor, and sports facility scheduling, maintenance, safety, and budgeting to ensure smooth operations.
  • Team Leader: Recruit, train, and support staff and volunteers; ensure certifications are current; manage departmental coordinator roles.
  • Innovate & Grow: Introduce new programs that add value to YMCA memberships and advance aquatics, fitness, membership, and sports activities.
  • Community Connection: Build relationships within the community to secure support for the YMCA and grow the Annual Support Campaign and scholarships.
  • Payroll Management: Manage payroll for all assigned departments.
  • Communication: Respond to supervisor and member communications within 24 hours.
  • Leadership Vision: Help shape and manage the vision for the YMCA’s sports, fitness, and aquatics programming and continue personal leadership growth.

Qualifications
  • Leadership with Heart: Desire to lead with passion and positivity; ability to mentor and advise other branches with YMCA leadership experience.
  • Experience: Bachelor’s degree required; 4 to 5 years of YMCA management experience in sports, aquatics, fitness, youth services, membership, or related fields.
  • Safety: Certifications in CPR, AED, lifeguard, and other required safety training (or willingness to obtain). Risk Management training preferred.
  • Team Player: Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Growth Mindset: Drive to continue developing leadership skills and help others grow.
  • CERTIFICATIONS: PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
  • Red Cross Instructor-level certification, YMCA and/or WSI instructor certification
  • CPO certification
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
