1. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:


  • Must possess the ability to perform the following:

    1. Communicate effectively (verbally, in writing, and electronically) with THA staff, Medical Staff, other healthcare professionals, patients and the general public. Strong human relation skills are a must.

    2. Meets patients goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results, determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.

  • Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies
    according to individuals physical capacity, intelligence level and interest.

  • Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting and evaluating
    patients progress, recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.

  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.

  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

  • Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.

  • Must be able to relate positively and professionally to patients, families and outside agencies and work cooperatively with co-workers, setting standards and examples for staff and others to follow.

  • Maintain an active interest in professional organizations.

  • Must be of good moral character.

  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours when necessary to effectively and efficiently perform duties, demonstrating commitment to organization and community.

  • Must be able to work independently and use good time management skills.

2. Qualifications:


  1. Diploma from an ACOTE accredited college or university in the field of Occupational Therapy with a minimum of a B.S. degree.

  2. Registered with the National Board Certification of Occupational.

  3. Must hold and maintain a current and valid license by the State of Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy as a licensed Occupational Therapist.

  4. Maintain CPR certification.

  5. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in order to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff, vendors, and the general public.

3. Physical Requirements:


  1. Perform all physical requirements of a full workday.

  2. Cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and set the proper example of such.

  3. Must be in good general health and capable of maintaining regular attendance.

  4. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics allowing all requirements of position be met effectively with support personnel and agencies.

  5. Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this position with or without accommodation and be able to pass a post-employment exam, if required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Completes daily schedule of patient evaluations, treatments and discharges.
  2. Maintains the highest possible level of departmental cleanliness and safety.
  3. Administers occupational therapy per physicians orders:
    1. Evaluates patients utilizing observations, patient self report and standardized measures.

    2. Notes diagnoses of patient and takes all precautions observing indications and contraindications.

    3. Prepares patient for treatment by proper dress and position
    4. Applies agents such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hot packs, TENS, cold packs, ice massage, spinal manipulation, therapeutic exercise, gait training, therapeutic activity for balance and transfers, tolerance to activity, safety education and HEP.
    5. Observe and evaluate treatment effect recommend changes to physician if indicated.

    6. Communicates with patient throughout treatment and answer all questions
    7. Check frequently on patient during treatment period to satisfy all patient needs.

    8. Returns equipment and supplies to proper storage area.
    9. Make phone calls to referring physicians for clarification or elaboration of treatment orders
    10. Assess, distinguish, report, and act upon all patients physical care.
    11. Assign patients to staff as needed

  4. Maintain records pertinent to patient treatment:

    1. Evaluate patient and establish treatment programs and

    2. Document daily treatment, outcome, treatment changes, and

    3. Documents discharge

  5. Supervise all work of staff

  6. Care of the physical plant and machinery related to the PT/OT department.

  7. Maintains standards as established by the American Occupational Therapy Association regarding treatment procedure and professional ethics.

  8. Completes OT services in various settings as assigned by Director

  9. Follows all Policies and Procedures as established within the department/hospital

  10. Will be available for weekend coverage, as needed/assigned.
