License Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) will provide comprehensive mental health services to individuals, couples, and families within the Family and Adolescent Health Care framework. This position requires a commitment to promoting mental health, enhancing family dynamics, and providing therapeutic interventions for a diverse client population. The LMFT will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to address a variety of behavioral health issues and support patients in achieving their personal and family goals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct assessments, including clinical interviews and therapeutic evaluations, to determine the mental health needs of clients and families.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that align with the specific needs and goals of each client.
- Provide therapeutic counseling for individuals, couples, and families, utilizing evidence-based practices and various therapeutic modalities (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy).
- Facilitate family therapy sessions to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships among family members.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary to ensure effective outcomes.
- Document all patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, social workers, and case managers, to provide comprehensive care and address the unique needs of clients.
- Stay informed about current best practices and evidence-based treatments in the field of marriage and family therapy.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
- Provide consultation and support to families and caregivers as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Current and valid license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Alabama.
- Minimum of three years of clinical experience in a mental health setting, preferably with a focus on family therapy.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing mental health services.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients and their families.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in documentation and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Culturally competent with an understanding of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
Mental Health Principles: Comprehensive understanding of mental health theories and practices, particularly related to marriage and family therapy.
Therapeutic Models: Familiarity with various therapeutic approaches, including but not limited to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), attachment theory, and family systems theory.
Family Dynamics: Knowledge of family dynamics, communication patterns, and conflict resolution strategies within diverse family structures.
Regulatory Frameworks: Understand state and federal regulations governing the practice of marriage and family therapy, including licensure requirements and ethical guidelines (e.g., HIPAA).

Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, allowing for clear expression of complex concepts to clients and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
Empathy and Understanding: Demonstrated ability to exhibit empathy, active listening, and a non-judgmental attitude towards clients from diverse backgrounds.
Crisis Intervention: Skilled in crisis intervention techniques and effectively managing acute situations that may arise during therapy sessions.
