Position Overview

The Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily fabrication operations within the manufacturing facility, ensuring that production goals are consistently met with a high degree of quality, safety, and efficiency. This role requires strong working knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including press and punch operations, as well as demonstrated leadership skills to effectively supervise and develop a high-performing team. The Fabrication Supervisor will ensure projects are completed on schedule, meet customer specifications, and align with internal quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Workflow Management

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily fabrication activities to meet production targets, project deadlines, and customer requirements.
  • Oversee machine operation activities including punch presses, brake presses, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is set up and operating effectively for optimal productivity and minimal downtime.
  • Monitor workflow and adjust staffing and task assignments as needed to maintain steady production output.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise fabrication personnel, including assigning daily duties, training new team members, evaluating performance, and providing ongoing coaching.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment built on communication, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate expectations, production updates, safety procedures, and organizational goals.
  • Identify skill gaps and provide training opportunities to strengthen team capabilities within punch, press, welding, and fabrication functions.

Quality Control & Safety

  • Inspect completed work to ensure design specifications, tolerances, and quality standards are met.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework, scrap, and inefficiencies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in alignment with OSHA guidelines and company regulations.
  • Train employees in proper equipment use, PPE, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and safe material handling methods.

Equipment & Process Management

  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of fabrication equipment including hydraulic presses, punch presses, automated machinery, and fabrication tools.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and engineering teams for preventative maintenance schedules and equipment repairs.
  • Recommend new tooling, equipment upgrades, or production methods to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.

Administrative & Reporting Duties

  • Maintain accurate logs for production output, downtime, defects, material usage, and labor hours.
  • Assist in developing fabrication plans, job travelers, production documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • Work with purchasing and inventory teams to ensure adequate availability of steel, components, tooling, and consumables.
  • Support budgeting, cost analysis, and resource planning as needed.
Specific Qualifications:

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or a related environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of punch presses, brake presses, and general fabrication machinery.
  • Proven leadership experience, managing teams in a production or industrial environment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and fabrication specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards and compliance regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising fabrication teams in industrial, electrical enclosure, or control systems manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, or similar improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery, noise, metals, and industrial processes.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operation of equipment for extended periods.
