Position Summary
We are seeking candidates who are passionate about the development of software system design, including high level architecture, interface definition, system behavior, and model development supporting the Advancing Operational Test Infrastructure (AOTI) effort. The AOTI effort is developing software capabilities for Operational Test Command to Plan, Prepare, Execute, and Assess Data across test event lifecycles. This engineer will utilize model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and methodology to enable effective and efficient engineering of the AOTI project.
The selected candidate will work at our office in Huntsville, Monday – Thursday, with the option of working remote on Friday. This position will assist with various Systems Engineering activities such as system model and software engineering artifact development. This position will include the development of new system models, focusing on system design, behavioral representation, and interface specification. Additional responsibilities will include the interpretation and integration of externally provided MBSE models to assist with the integration of systems and components into complex and extensible test environments.
This is an exciting opportunity to pioneer the development planning, monitoring, and assessment tools tailored to Operational Test environments. This role will require creativity, innovation, and expertise in applying SE and MBSE techniques to align with larger program and corporate objectives. This position will support in conceptualizing solutions, defining product roadmaps, and applying cutting-edge technologies to meet emerging customer requirements.
What You’ll Do
- Lead multidisciplinary teams to align models with system requirements, design, and performance criteria as necessary
- Partner with Software Team to define system capabilities to an implementable level of detail
- Elicit requirements from customers to understand operational test mission needs and gaps; develop system and software capabilities requirements and designs; plan and conduct verification and validation of developed resources; plan for and execute transition of capabilities to customers.
- Define and document high-level system architecture, interface definitions, and behaviors
- Develop and maintain system models to represent system architecture, interfaces, and behaviors using MBSE tools such as Cameo, Magic Draw, or equivalent
- Help drive the integration of MBSE practices across the program to ensure consistency, traceability, and alignment with stakeholder requirements
- Support generation of technical documentation and reports to aid in design reviews, requirements verification, and customer presentations
- Stay up to date on emerging MBSE methodologies and tools to ensure best practices
- Facilitate communication between systems engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders using system models
- Travel occasionally to customer sites or for team collaboration as required
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline (engineering, science, computer science/engineering) from an accredited institution
- 6-8 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience defining operational concepts, system architectures, and operational capabilities while deriving system and subsystem level requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication (written and verbal) skills
- 10% travel may be necessary
- Ability to work independently and lead model development efforts
- US citizenship and an active Secret clearance
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Agile or DevOps methodologies
- Proficient in SysML modeling language
- Systems Engineering and/or MBSE certifications
- Familiarity with DoDAF or UAF is a plus
- INCOSE: Associate (ASEP) or Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification
- OCSMP: Object Management Group (OMG) Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) Model User (MU) or Model Builder Fundamental (MBF) certification
