In this role, you’ll lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Curio’s nuclear Quality Assurance program in accordance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, and applicable regulatory requirements. This is an opportunity to shape the QA culture of a company at the forefront of nuclear technology, driven by world-class R&D and pioneering the best solutions in the field.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish, implement, and maintain a comprehensive nuclear Quality Assurance program compliant with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, and applicable DOE and NRC requirements.
  • Serve as the primary QA authority for the organization, providing oversight and guidance to all departments on quality-related matters.
  • Plan, schedule, and lead internal and external quality audits and surveillances; serve as Lead Auditor on complex technical audits.
  • Develop, review, and approve QA procedures, plans, and program documentation including the Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD).
  • Manage the Corrective Action Program (CAP), ensuring timely identification, documentation, evaluation, and resolution of nonconformances and conditions adverse to quality.
  • Oversee supplier qualification and procurement document review to ensure supply chain quality compliance.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for significant quality events and conditions adverse to quality.
  • Interface with the NRC, DOE, and other regulatory bodies on QA-related matters; support license applications and inspections.
  • Develop and deliver QA training programs to build quality awareness and competency across the organization.
  • Support project teams during design, procurement, construction, and operations phases to integrate quality requirements.
  • Monitor and report on QA program performance metrics to senior leadership and the Board as required.
  • Build and mentor the QA team, fostering a culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and nuclear safety.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Preferred Education: Master’s degree in engineering, Quality Management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in nuclear quality assurance, with demonstrated experience managing or directing a nuclear QA program.
  • Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified Lead Auditor certification per NQA-1 or equivalent (e.g., ASQ CQA, CQE); active certification strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1-2017, and applicable NRC and DOE regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and improving nuclear QA programs from the ground up or in early-stage nuclear technology companies.
  • Proven track record conducting and leading complex technical audits, surveillances, and supplier assessments.
  • Experience managing Corrective Action Programs (CAP) and performing or overseeing root cause analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact effectively with regulatory agencies, executive leadership, and technical staff.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Proficiency with QA document management systems and quality management software.
  • Nice-to-Haves: Experience with advanced nuclear fuel cycle technologies, small modular reactors (SMRs), or nuclear recycling/reprocessing programs; familiarity with IAEA safeguards requirements; experience supporting NRC license applications or DOE project authorization processes.

Salary Range

  • $145,000-195,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications

Benefits

  • Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) Plan
  • Yearly stock options
  • Generous PTO and sick days
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Chance for advancement
