In this role, you’ll lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Curio’s nuclear Quality Assurance program in accordance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, and applicable regulatory requirements. This is an opportunity to shape the QA culture of a company at the forefront of nuclear technology, driven by world-class R&D and pioneering the best solutions in the field.
What You’ll Do

- Develop, review, and approve QA procedures, plans, and program documentation including the Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD).
- Manage the Corrective Action Program (CAP), ensuring timely identification, documentation, evaluation, and resolution of nonconformances and conditions adverse to quality.
- Oversee supplier qualification and procurement document review to ensure supply chain quality compliance.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for significant quality events and conditions adverse to quality.
- Interface with the NRC, DOE, and other regulatory bodies on QA-related matters; support license applications and inspections.
- Develop and deliver QA training programs to build quality awareness and competency across the organization.
- Support project teams during design, procurement, construction, and operations phases to integrate quality requirements.
- Monitor and report on QA program performance metrics to senior leadership and the Board as required.
- Build and mentor the QA team, fostering a culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and nuclear safety.

- Preferred Education: Master’s degree in engineering, Quality Management, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in nuclear quality assurance, with demonstrated experience managing or directing a nuclear QA program.
- Skills & Qualifications:
- Qualified Lead Auditor certification per NQA-1 or equivalent (e.g., ASQ CQA, CQE); active certification strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1-2017, and applicable NRC and DOE regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and improving nuclear QA programs from the ground up or in early-stage nuclear technology companies.
- Proven track record conducting and leading complex technical audits, surveillances, and supplier assessments.
- Experience managing Corrective Action Programs (CAP) and performing or overseeing root cause analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact effectively with regulatory agencies, executive leadership, and technical staff.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Proficiency with QA document management systems and quality management software.

Why Join Us in Birmingham?
Birmingham is a growing hub for advanced manufacturing and technology, offering a high quality of life with a lower cost of living than most major metro areas.
