Job Description
This role focuses on electrical maintenance in a heavy industrial plant environment in Muscle Shoals, AL. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, install and commission equipment, and troubleshoot complex electrical systems on large, high-precision machinery including rolling mills, conveyors, CNC machines, casting equipment, and furnaces. The position requires strong industrial electrical experience, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and effectively with high-voltage equipment and advanced control systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
- Execute corrective maintenance and repairs on industrial machinery, including rolling mills, conveyors, CNC machines, casting equipment, and furnaces.
- Install, wire, and commission new equipment and electrical systems in a heavy industrial plant environment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with PLC controls, including Siemens PLCs, to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
- Diagnose and repair AC and DC drives, 3-phase motors, and associated control and power circuits.
- Work with high-voltage equipment, switchgear, and generators, following all safety procedures and best practices.
- Perform detailed electrical troubleshooting using appropriate tools, documentation, and control schematics.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment modifications.
- Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams within a specific department (cold mill, hot mill, cast house, Element 13, or roll shop) to prioritize work and support production needs.
- Follow established training programs and departmental procedures to ensure consistent maintenance standards.
- Adhere to all plant safety rules, including PPE requirements and site-specific policies such as tobacco-free and no-jewelry rules.
- Adapt to working in a large campus environment and navigate to assigned areas as required for maintenance tasks.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and maintenance practices.
Essential Skills
- Journeyman Electrician or equivalent industrial electrician experience.
- Industrial electrician experience in a heavy industrial environment.
- Minimum of 5+ years of electrical maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
- Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, including experience with Siemens PLCs.
- Hands-on experience with AC drives and DC electrical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain high-voltage equipment and switchgear.
- Experience commissioning equipment, including electrical installation and startup activities.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills on complex industrial machinery.
- Experience working with 3-phase motors and related control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Attention to detail and precision when working on large equipment with tight tolerances.
- Comfort working in a heavy industrial environment with varying temperatures and conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as an industrial journeyman electrician is highly preferred.
- Experience as an industrial electrician from a contracting agency is considered.
- Industrial maintenance mechanic experience in addition to electrical skills is beneficial.
- Familiarity with PLC control systems beyond Siemens platforms is an advantage.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Wiring and installation experience in complex industrial settings.
- Willingness to work night shifts on a 3-2-2 schedule (6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.) for at least one year before potential shift change.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, either days or nights, depending on departmental needs.
- Comfort working within both union and non-union maintenance environments, depending on department.

Work Environment
The role is based in a heavy industrial plant where no part of the facility is climate controlled. You work directly around industrial equipment and the elements, with very hot conditions in the summer and very cold conditions in the winter, and at times increased heat near furnaces. Maintenance is primarily non-union, with union presence limited to one department. The position follows 12-hour shifts, including night shift options on a 3-2-2 schedule (6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.), with the expectation of working at least one year on nights before any potential shift change. The site is tobacco-free, and no jewelry is permitted while on-site, in line with safety and operational requirements.
