Nectar Consulting is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant & Compliance Associate to support accounting operations, reconciliations, accruals, financial reporting, regulatory reporting support, and employee onboarding/compliance administration for a diverse client base that includes regulated financial services entities. This role is ideal for an early-career professional who already has a foundation in accounting and can take ownership of recurring work while operating under supervisory review.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable balancing accounting responsibilities with compliance and regulatory support in a high-expectation environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Cash Management

  • Access client bank accounts daily to monitor cash activity and record transactions timely and accurately.
  • Prepare and post entries for cash receipts and disbursements.
  • Update general ledgers daily to reflect current financial activity.
  • Prepare journal entries for:
    • accrued expenses,
    • bills and invoices,
    • prepayments,
    • deferred revenue,
    • and routine month-end adjustments.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate workpapers and supporting schedules.
  • Help ensure records are maintained in accordance with internal standards and US GAAP.

Financial Reporting & Regulatory Support

  • Collate financial statements and supporting schedules for internal and client reporting.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining workpapers for basic net capital calculations .
  • Enter financial information into required regulatory reporting forms and formats accurately and on schedule.
  • Support recurring reporting packages and audit/regulatory readiness documentation.
  • Maintain orderly records that can withstand review by auditors, regulators, and client management.

Compliance & HR Administration

  • Process and collect employment applications, onboarding forms, and related documentation.
  • Enter employee information into payroll systems, registration systems, and internal tracking tools.
  • Maintain compliance records for:
    • training,
    • licensing,
    • registrations,
    • deadlines,
    • and other HR/accounting/compliance requirements.
  • Track changes, expirations, renewals, and status updates for employee compliance records.
  • Assist with onboarding and other recurring regulatory and administrative compliance tasks.

General Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple recurring deadlines across clients and internal processes.
  • Work with accuracy and discretion in handling sensitive financial and employee information.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors regarding issues, priorities, and open items.
  • Demonstrate initiative in researching questions, learning processes, and improving understanding of assigned responsibilities.
  • Contribute to process consistency and continuous improvement across accounting and compliance workflows.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 1+ years of directly relevant experience .
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement flow.
  • Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger activity.
  • Familiarity with popular accounting platforms and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Strong Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage recurring responsibilities with limited day-to-day oversight once trained.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting regulated entities, including investment advisers, broker-dealers, or similar environments.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting and regulatory forms.
  • Experience with payroll systems, registration systems, or internal compliance tracking tools.
  • Exposure to US GAAP-based accounting environments.
  • Licenses such as SIE, Series 99, Series 27, or Series 28 .
  • Experience in accounting/compliance support for audited or highly scrutinized environments.
