Mechanical Piping Department Manager

Genesis Technical Staffing is seeking a Mechanical Piping Department Manager for a direct opportunity in Birmingham, AL.

A Mechanical Piping Department Leader manages the engineering, design, and technical staff responsible for piping systems, ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and compliant with standards. Key responsibilities include staffing, mentoring, developing work processes, and overseeing quality control for 3D models, drawings, and calculations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership:Supervise, mentor, and train designers and engineers; manage resource allocation and personnel development.
  • Project Management:Plan and assign work, develop man-hour estimates, and monitor budget and schedule compliance.
  • Technical Authority:Review and approve key deliverables, including piping layouts, piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), stress analyses, and specifications.
  • Quality Assurance:Establish work procedures, conduct technical reviews, and perform, checks for accuracy and adherence to codes (ASME, API, etc.).
  • Coordination:Collaborate with project managers, other engineering disciplines, and construction teams to ensure design constructability.
  • Recruitment:Identify department staffing needs and lead recruitment efforts.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience:10–15+ years in mechanical/piping engineering, with 5+ years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Education:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Licensure:Professional Engineer (PE) license is frequently required.
  • Technical Skills:Strong knowledge of ASME codes (e.g., B31.3), 3D modeling software, and CAD tools.
  • Soft Skills:Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
