Job Title: Advanced Shipfitter (Multi-Pass Tack and Burn)

We are seeking a skilled Advanced Shipfitter with extensive experience in shipbuilding. T

Responsibilities

• Perform single pass tack welding using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Process.
• Utilize burning and heating tools such as Oxygen/Propane Burning and Heating Torches.
• Interpret complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, understanding weld symbols, material types, and reference lines.
• Measure and comprehend fractional dimensions accurately using a ruler.
• Lay off piece parts for fabrication and assembly.
• Assemble structural parts according to specifications with high quality.
• Work effectively in a physically demanding environment like shipbuilding or steel fabrication.
• Comply with OSHA regulations specific to the shipbuilding industry.
• Use vibratory tools, including grinders and needle guns.

Essential Skills

• Four years of experience as a first-class shipfitter in commercial or naval settings.
• Proficiency in Single Pass Tack Welding.
• Experience with burning and heating using Oxygen/Propane Torches.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and structural drawings.
• Understanding of fractional dimensions and ability to use a ruler.
• Experience in assembling structural components per specifications.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations in shipbuilding.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Must pass a Single Pass Tack Welder Qualification Test using SMAW Process.
• Proficiency in both Vertical Up (3F) and Overhead (4F) welding positions.
• US Citizenship is required.

Work Environment

Work in the largest shipyard in the world, located in Southeast Virginia. The environment varies with hot and muggy summers and cool winters. Work on Navy vessels or in a shop setting, with shifts available around the clock: 1st shift (7am-3:30pm), 2nd shift (3:30-11pm), and 3rd shift (11pm-7am).

This is a Contract position based out of Mobile, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
