*Job Summary: *The Engineering Researcher I contributes to the planning and design of engineering research and creative projects. Performs supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, performing lab maintenance, and/or performing experiments and creating creative projects. May assist in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.
*Additional Department Summary: *Conducts independent research within the area of molecular science and engineering, with focus on interfacial systems, complex mixtures, and novel aqueous systems containing electrolytes and per-fluorurated compounds. Develops and tests force fields for new compounds and emergent contaminants. Conducts high-performance simulations for large systems. Deploys machine learning tools to extract lessons from simulation results as well as from experimental datasets. Designs new chemicals for specific applications. Analyzes the results, and writes summaries for publication in peer-reviewed journal articles and reports to funding agencies. Trains junior members of the group, including undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. Presents the results of the research at international conferences and at industrial symposia. Contributes to write and submit proposals to federal funding agencies and to industrial partners. Designs and delivers tutorials/short courses both in traditional classroom settings as well as online format.
*Required Minimum Qualifications: *Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of engineering or closely related research experience; OR master's degree or higher and some engineering or closely related research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Master's degree or higher).
*Skills and Knowledge: *Excellent communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with others and train students and other stakeholder groups on a one-on-one as well as in groups settings. Ability to coordinate with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and external collaborators. Skills in parallel computing, parallel application design and development, and performance evaluation and optimization. Knowledge and experience using OpenMP, MPI, and CUDA.
*Preferred Qualifications: *PhD in Chemical Engineering or equivalent. Post-doctoral research experience. Experience with high-performance computing and programming in Python, C/C++, and other languages. Experience with performance evaluation and optimizations of Exascale applications on heterogeneous architectures. Familiarity with higher-level libraries and large-scale applications.
