The Business Applications Director is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all software applications, other than the Transportation Management System (TMS), used within our logistics company. This role ensures that the technological needs of departments such as Maintenance, Risk, Finance, and others are met and integrated seamlessly with our core systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:
- Strategic Oversight : Develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for business application deployment, upgrades, and integration to support the company's goals and objectives.
- Application Management : Oversee the selection, deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of all non-TMS applications. This includes evaluating software solutions, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring that selected applications meet company needs.
- Integration : Ensure that business applications are fully integrated with each other, and where applicable, with the TMS, to allow for streamlined operations and data flow.
- Stakeholder Collaboration : Work closely with department heads to understand their technological needs and challenges, ensuring that chosen solutions enhance their operations.
- Budget Management : Oversee the budget for business applications, ensuring that expenditures are in line with company objectives and bring value.
- Team Leadership : Lead a team of application specialists and analysts, providing direction, training, and performance management.
- Risk Management : Collaborate with the Risk department to ensure all applications meet security and compliance standards. Implement regular audits and reviews to detect vulnerabilities.
- Training and Support : Ensure that staff are adequately trained on any new or upgraded software solutions. Oversee the creation and maintenance of user manuals and training materials.
- Data Analysis & Reporting : Work with the Finance and other departments to develop and maintain dashboards and reports, extracting insights to guide strategic decisions.
- Continuous Improvement : Monitor the latest trends in application technology to ensure the company remains competitive. Make recommendations for improvements and innovations.
- Project Management : Oversee major application-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in application management or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in selecting and implementing business software solutions, preferably in the logistics or related industries.
- Strong understanding of the logistics industry and its technological needs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong project management capabilities.
- Ability to think strategically and execute methodically.
- A proven track record in managing budgets and vendors.
A Successful Director of Business Applications must consistently demonstrate the company's Mission and Values. They must have good oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact with customers, drivers and other team members in person and on the telephone. They must be customer service-oriented as well as team-oriented and must have good organizational skills. A successful Director of Business Applications must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Finally, they must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed to include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
