Position Overview:
The Quality Shop Inspector is responsible for ensuring that manufactured components meet established quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. This role performs inspections on in-house machined parts, conducts receiving inspections for subcontracted processes, supports calibration of measurement equipment, and audits quality documentation across departments. The inspector collaborates with production and quality teams to maintain compliance with internal procedures and customer requirements while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
**Essential Duties: **(Additional duties may be assigned as required.)
- Assist with first article and first-piece inspections to verify conformance to engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Audit inspection documentation and processes across departments to ensure adherence to established procedures.
- Perform receiving inspections for subcontracted machining operations and special processes to verify compliance with purchase orders and specifications.
- Calibrate and maintain in-house measurement and inspection instruments in accordance with established calibration procedures.
- Inspect in-house machined components for both new production and repair operations to ensure product quality and accuracy.
- Provide support to other operational areas as required according to company flexibility guidelines.
- Perform additional duties and special assignments as needed to support quality and manufacturing operations.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Made2Manage, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Outlook.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:
Ability to identify visual quality defects; dents, cracks, surface imperfections, scratches, and rust
Ability to read and calibrate various measuring instruments; ID & OD micrometers, calipers, depth mics, height gage, gage blocks, thickness testers, profilometer, etc.
Ability to work in a multi-task environment with frequent interruptions and requests for assistance in related manufacturing situations.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, understand receiving process & PO documents
Familiar with all gage methodologies used to inspect Yates products

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and hard sole/close toed shoes with a low heel when walking through the manufacturing shop and/or repair shop whether as part of performing their job or just passing through. In addition, long hair must be tied back when around hazards of flame, machinery, or equipment.
