Make a meaningful impact on students’ lives as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in a supportive educational setting near Bessemer, AL. This contract opportunity focuses on providing high-quality instruction and accommodations for students identified as Deaf or Hard of Hearing, as recognized within the district. You'll collaborate with school teams and play a pivotal role in fostering student growth and accessibility.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Valid Alabama Teacher’s Certificate
- Meets Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements or shows willingness to fulfill requirements within the set timeframe
- Holds or is able to obtain all required licensure for Deaf/Hard of Hearing teaching within Alabama
- Prior experience teaching or supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is highly valued
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction to Deaf or Hard of Hearing students
- Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and support inclusion
- Create and implement specialized learning plans tailored to student needs
- Monitor and report on student progress, maintaining thorough documentation
- Encourage students’ self-advocacy and independence through specialized strategies
- Work closely with families and support staff to promote student success
- Support IEP development, implementation, and compliance with district and state guidelines
