Shipyard Maintenance Mechanic – Heavy Equipment & Facilities

Genesis is hiring experienced Maintenance Mechanics to support shipyard operations by maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, industrial systems, and shipyard facilities. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment used in vessel repair, dry dock operations, material handling, and facility maintenance throughout the yard.

Position Summary

The Shipyard Maintenance Mechanic performs diagnostics, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy industrial equipment and shipyard support systems. Responsibilities include servicing cranes, crawler equipment, hydraulic systems, diesel-powered machinery, facility systems, and other equipment essential to shipyard operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on shipyard heavy equipment including:
  • Cranes
  • Excavators
  • Bulldozers
  • Backhoes
  • Skidders
  • Semi-tractors and trailers
  • Man lifts
  • High-pressure pumps
  • Material handling equipment
• Maintain and repair shipyard facility systems including:
  • HVAC systems
  • Lighting and electrical fixtures
  • Plumbing systems and restrooms
  • General industrial facility infrastructure
• Diagnose and repair:
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Mechanical air brake systems
  • Steering and suspension systems
  • Hydrostatic transmissions
  • Diesel and propane-powered equipment
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures affecting shipyard operations and vessel support activities
• Service and repair track systems, drive sprockets, idler wheels, steering clutches, brake bands, and final drives
• Perform preventative maintenance including inspections, lubrication, filter changes, and fluid servicing
• Disassemble, repair, replace, and reassemble components and systems related to:
  • Brakes
  • Cooling systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Exhaust and emissions
  • HVAC systems
  • Hydraulic and air systems
• Perform engine overhauls, rebuild components, and replace engines as required
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection records, and repair documentation
• Follow all shipyard safety regulations and operational procedures
• Support shipyard operations during overtime and weekend work when required

Qualifications

• Experience in shipyard, industrial, heavy equipment, or marine maintenance environments preferred
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, diesel, and industrial systems
• Ability to work safely in a physically demanding industrial shipyard environment
• Ability to lift, climb, crawl, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Experience with preventative maintenance programs and industrial repair practices

Work Schedule

• Monday – Friday
• 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
• Overtime and weekend work required as needed to support shipyard operations

Pay Range

• 1st Class Maintenance Mechanic: $23.25 – $29.00 per hour
• Compensation based on experience and interview evaluation
